NECA Reveals Robocop NES Version

Posted on October 23, 2013 at 3:21 pm by Joe Moore under Robocop Toy News, Video Game Toy News

NECA is bringing more video game inspired figures to fans. After the hugely successful NES Jason Voorhees, and the soon to be released NES Freddy Krueger, all we had were teases that more NES inspired figures were coming. Based on the licenses they had, it probably wasn’t hard to guess who we would eventually see. Today we finally have confirmation of the next figure in the NES line.

NECA has tweeted out a photo of the packaging for their Robocop NES Version. It’s based on the NES video game published by Data East from 1989. In the game, Robocop was a mix of aquamarine and black colors. Right now, we just have the packaging. Expect the figure reveal soon.

UPDATE:
Thanks to miraclefan of the Toyark forums, we have word that NECA has fully revealed the Robocop Video Game Version. This will be limited to a single production run. It’s scheduled for release in February 2014, but that is subject to change. Read on to see all the photos.

It mimics the games look rather well. A bit closer to the cut scenes than the in-game colors. I've already got the Jason and the Freddy is a buy. This one, however, might be their best effort yet.

Looks very neat, if you got one with bad paint apps it would definately loose the look they have going.

Loved this game. Could never get past the first boss. Part of me wants to actually buy it, but will probably pass.

I have the retractable pistol version of this figure(the one that's been out since last year), and it's decent, just wish range of motion was better. This is a KILLER idea for a repaint! I think it looks great.

I might actually get this one, simply for the nostalgia factor. Well, that and it reminds me of the situational irony that was created when you take a hard-R movie character like Robocop and put him on a mostly G-Rated gaming console.

Seriously! Hard to believe that movies like Robocop and Rambo had cartoons, toys and games based on them. Not that I'm complaining. I loved all that stuff growing up. Different times, my friend.

I'm complaining. I wish they didn't. Trying to make it more "kid friendly" is what killed part 3.

While I agree they should never have attempted to officially go after the younger demographic. We were already seeing it because it was a bad-ass movie and considered "off-limits" to a lot of us kids back then. The notoriety/taboo was 50% of the appeal, anyway.

The studio that made the Robocop films thought they could build it into a huge franchise by targeting a younger audience. So they made the third film less violent than the first two and put it all kinds of PSA-type crap so they wouldn't offend the PMRC-like groups out there at the time.
