New Call of Duty Mega Bloks Sets Released

Posted on September 24, 2013 at 9:17 am by Joe Moore under Video Game Toy News

The Brick Show reports that the Call of Duty Mega Bloks Sets have found their way to stores. These were scheduled to launch at New York Comic-Con next month, but looks like they hit shelves a bit early. See the video above to check them out.

I'm not a fan of the games at all, but these are way too cool to ignore. I love little toy soldiers, and these definitely look bad ass.

Never kept up with these games thought they were still WW2, hopefully they might expand to the older games later.

They expanded to Halo Wars from the main Halo line after it was going a while.

I saw some of these last week at tru and had no idea what I was looking at. I might get one or two sets just to see if my little man likes them. he's the lego/mega bloks/kre-o/k-nex collector...

OH MAN! Another line to collect, and worst, these guys are army builders! You can easily swap arms/legs/weapons and make all new soldiers. This is going to be GREAT!

This is what Kreo's GI Joe line should have been. Silly Hasbro and their shortsightedness. These CoD Mega Bloks are beyond bad ass. I want to throw all my money at them. I want them all (well, not all of them. I can do without the snow themed ones.)

Picked up the RIB Beach Assault set last week just to check them out. These are the most articulated and detailed mini-figures yet! Which could be a good or bad thing. Good because it's detailed and articulated, bad because now there are more tiny pieces to lose!

I'll probably pick up at least one of the smaller sets to check out the minifigs. It's basically the same thing I've done for their Halo and WoW figures. But I will say that just from the vid and pics, I may dive a lot deeper with this line.

The problem with that idea is that Oxford's Kre-O brick system has a specific style and design, so any IP used on it will also have that look. It's the same thing with Lego. You think if Lego got the CoD license that their soldiers would look anything like the ones in the MegaBloks sets? Of course not. They would be the same Yellow Men that they've always been, just like Lego has done with every other licensed set they've ever done.

If anything, I wish Hasbro had assigned the G.I.Joe building block license to MegaBloks instead of Oxford, but I guess Hasbro wants to keep all their in-house properties in the same style.

But that doesn't mean we can't use the MegaBloks CoD sets to make custom Joe stuff, right?

This is the smartest thing Mega Bloks has ever done IMO. They have upped the ante, I hope Hasbro takes notice and makes bigger GI Joe Kre-O figures that are more articulated and are new molds. These figures are bigger than the Halo Megabloks figures. At this point noone cares, as these are awesome.

The vehicle builds look excellent. So both in mini-figures and vehicles I think COD Mega Bloks have defeated GI Joe Kre-O.

Hopefully blindbagged figures and more vehicles are not far behind. It would be AWESOME if Mega Bloks decides to take on COD's main rival too...can you imagine Mega Bloks BATTLEFIELD 4? YES!!!!!!

I found the beach assault, and the guy with the drone tank at ToysRUs. I really only want the 5-pack of desert colored troopers, but they were not even in TRU's system. They told me to check when they get a new shipment of toys, which I think is either tomorrow or Thursday.

Not that it's going to turn me off from buying them, but how much bigger are they than a Halo Marine or Spartan? My main concern is customizability. I want to be able to put Halo heads on CoD bodies without them looking too small. The new marines from Halo 4 have really cool helmets, and I want to make a custom CoD trooper with an H4 marine helmet.

Heads, thighs, and shins are swappable between Halo and CoD figures. The hands might be too, but they're pretty tight on my CoD figure, and I didn't want to risk damaging it.
The backpack hole on the CoD figure is significantly lower than on the Halo figures. This means if you try to put a Halo backpack on a CoD figure, it will be dangling over his butt. The reason the hole is set lower is because the space previously occupied by the hole in Halo figures is now occupied by peg holes for the shoulders.

CoD heads are really small. I put a Halo 4 marine head on my CoD figure in the last photo.
