Four Horsemen Warn MOTUC and DCUC Could Be Cancelled

Posted on August 7, 2013 at 11:02 am by Joe Moore under DC Toy News, Masters Of The Universe Toy News

The Four Horsemen, sculptors of Masters of the Universe Classics line (among many other excellent projects), has released a statement regarding the MattyCollector Subscriptions. I’ll let them take it from here:

If you know who we are then you probably know about Mattel’s action figure lines – Masters of the Universe Classics and DC Universe Classics, and you probably also know about our involvement with both of those properties. Both lines are very near and dear to our hearts as fans and we always try to remember how very blessed we are to have the opportunity to work on both of them.

So, if you know who we are and you know about MotU Classics and DCU Classics, then you probably know what this message is going to be about. Both lines are in danger of ending prematurely and they need your help to continue. We’re not going to beg you to buy multiple subscriptions or try to convince you that getting a subscription to either or both of these lines is more important than paying your rent or putting gas in your car. Those of you who have followed us for a while know that we’ve never been like that, and that if anything we’re going to do what is natural to us and come at this from a fan’s point of view.

First and foremost, there have been rumors floating about that this is some sort of scare tactic by Mattel just to sell more subscriptions than they really need and that the charts on MattyCollector.com are faked. These rumors could not be farther from the truth. What’s going on is that Mattel is being completely transparent about the subscriptions that have been sold so far and they’re letting you in on it just so you’ll be aware of the progress and consequently how much danger these lines are really facing of being ended. We’re actually floored that the MotU Classics subscription is only up to 35% at the time of this writing and the DCU subscription is only at about 20%!

From a fans perspective we see it like this…

With the DCU line there are still opportunities for all of us to finish off some hero and villain teams that we’ve all have wanted for a while and also to get characters that really need an update and an upgrade from earlier versions that were done of them, like Superman’s nemesis – Doomsday!

As for MotU Classics, there are still lots of fairly top tier characters that are from the original toy lines and cartoons that have yet to become part of the MotU Classics universe. Plus there are many fan-favorite secondary characters that may never see the light of day if the subscription campaign isn’t successful. Characters like Tongue Lashor, Rio Blast, Extendar, Squeeze, Ninjor, Dragstor, Sssqueeze, Flutterina, Angella, Blade, Entrapta, Saurod, New Adventures Skeletor, Evil Seed, Sweet Bee, Double Trouble, Flogg, Mermista, and yes – even Madame Razz and Gwildor ALL need to be made! It’s just plain and simple – without the subscriptions these figures just have no chance of ever happening.

So, it’s not a scam or a scare tactic. It’s just fact. Both of these iconic, history making toy lines are in danger of being cancelled and the only way we can all make sure this doesn’t happen is to subscribe to Club Eternia for Masters of the Universe Classics figures and to Club Infinite Earths for DC Universe figures before Monday August 19th 2013 to help ensure that these two truly classic lines stick around for a little while longer.

That’s less than two weeks before the fate of these two heroic lines will be decided. This time you truly DO have the power! To go directly to the MattyCollector.com subscriptions page, just click here.

Well the economy is also hard on the collectors. I know Mattel can do wonders with the DC line they just suck at getting it right.

you might get more subscriptions if people knew what they were getting in advance. It's hard to fork over cash when you know half of what you are paying for is crap filler characters instead of real "classics."

Well I signed up those of you who don't want to then we get nothing. Don't even bother cherry picking because it proves by not signing up you really do not want them, and could careless about there even being a DC Line. I will say If they only get to tier 1 because you do not sign up don't complain. For those of you waiting Just sign up already I have a feeling this will be the last time Mattel does a DC Club line because why bother if people just refuse to do anything. Those of you who want to cherry pick let me tell you you won't be cherry picking if there is no line because you only wanted 2 figures as I've said if you don't want X figure just turn around and sell it.

NOBODY'S gonna by a bunch of high priced figures they don't want or a club subscription just to appease you and MattyCollector. Maybe they should change things on the other end.

As for appeasing me don't buy the subsription I could careless what you do with your money. But if Mattel doesn't do DCU line then I will automatically stop wasting money on Hasbro Stuff because I will want to see them shut down too Marvel Stuff is horrendous anyway

That's ok I prefer Dc Collectibles DC line anyway. They new line up they just revealed at SDCC is amazing. I cant wait for the Court of Owls and Nightwing. Its fine with me if they stop Motu and Dcuc figures because they are the ones going to lose money. Just more money saved for me to spend on Dc figures and Marvel Legends.

Well the Club line may be cancelled and the DC Unlimited line has been cancelled and replaced by a Crappy Cartoony line for 2014. DCUC was cancelled in late 2011, DC All Stars Cancelled Spring 2012, and DC Unlimited this Summer

Personally I only buy the MOTUC characters I am interested in, so a sub doesn't make any sense to me. I have a feeling those popular characters would still get made if the sub doesn't happen, as they would still sell.

I think it's time for the subscription model to die. Then maybe Mattel will be forced to figure out how to manage a line at retail. Hasbro managed to do it with the DC license and they are managing a Marvel license now. So why is Mattel so messed up that they don't know how to manage a retail line?!

One way or another Mattel will do something with the DC license. I'm sure they paid too much for it to let it idle.

Do do make a fine point, but Mattel thinks they are the only ones affected by the economy. We are too. Plus like some one mentioned it is mattel's job to advertise the line, if it can't create demand for its line then they need a new marketing team too.

I have been a MOTUC subscriber since the beginning and have loved every minute of it. These are the best action figures coming out and they come out consistently every month. All of the figures are sculpted by the epic Four Horsemen, who are among the best in the business if not the best. Also, Scott "ToyGuru" actually cares to communicate with the fans very regularly about the product.

I subscribed to MOTUC again for 2014 and would subscribe to the DC Classics sub if I could afford it. Well worth the money and commitment.

there are a number of Retailers who buy multiple subscriptions and sell them for a lot more then what they sell for on day of sale which honestly more power to them at least they add to subs totals. Heck if I could I would by as many subs as I could if it meant we got these figures but I cannot.

On stuff that lacks quality. Well maybe Hasbro needs to do a Subscription line so they can go belly up where they belong because with what they put out the Quality looks like a something I pulled out of a Trash can

Dude, what the hell does Hasbro have to do with any of this? You sound so hateful and bitter in all the posts you've put on here. You're saying Hasbro failing is your new goal? haha, childish much?

Saying Hasbro's stuff is lesser quality, well I laugh at that because I buy both lines. Hasbro is as cheap, offers way more articulation, new bodies and are as good as any DC figure I own. Plus they actually take a chance with the line and put product out there while Mattel is to afraid to take a gamble and make people get subs before they commit. Don't be pissed at Hasbro for getting tons of new lines out, new bodies, new articulation and actually having them on shelves while Mattel won't do the same.

DC Collectables DC's figures put everything Mattel is offering to shame and they get most of my money, do you also want them to fail or are you just a Marvel hater? I've noticed that when Mattel is making threats to cancel a line or does cancel aline that people bring up Hasbro/Marvel for no reason. It comes off sort of jealous that the other guy is doing well. It's like losing your job and house and wishing your neighbors to lose their job and home as well. It's childish and silly and uncalled for.

You tell others it's their fault for this line failing and then you say ''why waste my money for figures I don't want'' well the same logic applies to Mattel's subs. Why should we waste our hard earned money for figures we don't want?

It's Mattel's fault they are failing with the poor figure selection, lack of new articulation, same old bodies that should be retired and price.

You say why waste your money on things you don't want? Well why should people subscribe when they don't want all the figures? The same logic applies. The newer Superboy looks god awful and you say Hasbro has bad sculpts lol. The Doomsday is nice but it's a shame I have to get the prisoner before we'll get the one we really want. They put the prisoner before the unleashed and that's just so they can make us buy both. Ras looks awful and most others think so too.

Quit being mad that other toy companies are doing well and saying ''I'm going to make them fail, that's my goal'' because that comes off very childish and silly.

It's not Hasbro's fault or fans for Mattel failing, it's Mattel's fault for not offering us what we really want. It's sad they won't take a gamble on product and throw scare tactics out to people. There is no excuse for it considering they are the world's largest toy maker. Smaller companies like DC Collectables and Neca get product out there all the time and actually take a chance of losing money because they have BALLS. That's what a business is, taking chances without knowing you'll get a return.

No one told Mattel to make all those Super Powers figures that no one hardly knew nor cared, it's not our fault those things are peg warming. They could have made so many different characters but they choose that terrible wave and that's the reason most stores around here never carried DC Unlimited.

Quit being a hater and quit blaming others for Mattel's failings. Blame Mattel.

Then again, maybe people just don't care about the DC figures that much anymore and have moved on to bigger and better things, like DC Collectables who are as cheap and MUCH better at DC figures. I mean they don't make threats to cancel lines if we don't commit with our hard earned money. They take chances at retail because they have something Mattel lacks....it's called balls.

I just got back into MOTUC guess I picked a good time, there will be tons of $10 figures sold in Big Lots, it sucks that they are ending but that's what they get for charging 3 times more what ther worth.

After Big Lots sold through this stock so fast they will definately purchase a large hunk as soon as they can again of the last run of items.

Probably will sell all the things Matty says aren't even in production will pop up at BL and other outlet stores.

For instance right now they are selling a pack of Orko and Prince adam for $30 plus shipping ont here website it has been showing up at Big Lots for $10, there is no way that toy is worth the amount they charge.

Also, Hasbro may make their items availiable at retail and I am not defending Matty because they are horrible and most of my purchases have been second hand after the one I had directly from them I was out.

You must have never tried actually looking for a certain Hasbro toy at retail distribution sucks by the store, their online store doesn't sell most of there items an you are out of luck with most figures.

Ask any GiJoe or Transformers collector of course some claim they have seen everything at retail but I refuse to believe them there is no store/area that gets everything.
