Diamond Select Toys has sent along some new info for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2013 Exclusive Star Trek – Cloaked Klingon Bird of Prey Starship. Check the details below:
Everybody remember where we parked! Comic-Con International in San Diego has long been the home to all levels of Star Trek fandom. From casual fans to die-hard cosplayers, every degree of Trek fan is in attendance. And while Diamond Select Toys always has something new to show off to Trekkies at the show, it’s been a while since they offered an exclusive Trek product to attendees. Well, the wait is over!
This year’s Comic-Con exclusive will be a fully cloaked Klingon Bird of Prey, based on one of the most recent electronic starships from Diamond Select. A variant on the partially cloaked Klingon Bird of Prey, the cloaked Bird of Prey is cast entirely in transparent plastic, and has had all of its electronics removed, rendering it virtually invisible! Like the regular edition, it measures 12 inches long with a 19-inch wingspan, but it comes with a transparent display base as well as translucent landing gear, so you can land it in the public park of your choice. The ship has been limited to only 200 pieces made, and will only be available at the Diamond Select Toys booth, #2607.

Okay...nice novelty thing...so when does the real one with landing gear come out?
That's kind of...interesting...I guess. I still don't see the point of a cloaked BOP with landing gear. Especially since the normal one didn't come with them. Then again not a lot of DST's recent decisions make any sense to me. These Star Trek Select "figures", aka statues with some movable parts, for example.
Oh well, wake me up when CBS get's their head out of their ass and finally gives the nuTrek licensing to DST.

Personally I think the transparent "cloaked" version is a lame variant and I have no desire to get it, but I can understand DST wanting to get as much mileage out of this sculpt as possible. I wonder if or when they'll release an "HMS Bounty" repaint of it from Star Trek IV.
