Mattel Asks If You Want From New 52 MOTU Toys

Posted on June 6, 2013 at 11:50 am by Joe Moore under DC Toy News, Masters Of The Universe Toy News

Mattel has posted a poll, asking fans if they would be interested in DC Comics New 52 Styled Masters of the Universe Toys. The options for the poll are limited and the figures look like they won’t be cheap. Here is the question and the choices.

1. We’re thinking about DC Comics versions of Masters of the Universe characters … if you’re a MOTU and DC Comics fan, would you want:

• A MOTU figure in DC Comics style paired with a New 52 figure as a 2-pack for $50
• MOTU figures in DC Comics style as singles for $25 each
• Neither – I’m not interested in DC Comics versions of MOTU figures

You can vote in the poll by Clicking Here. also, let us know what you think by joining in on the discussion.

Not if they look like the characters in that image.

Unfortunately, that appears to be the case.

that's actually a nicely drawn picture. but matty prices are insane because of how much they charge for shipping and handling. so $25 would be closer to $40...

My problem isn't with the design as it's drawn, it's how it would look in person. There's a definite body style to MOTU, so every time I see the existing figures, I'm not drawn to them like I am the DC Unlimited figures.

Only if it comes out of the DC lines operating budget and it is no way a part of any subscription that I hold.

Dig the designs a bit. Some minor tweaks maybe on some of the MOTU side, and hope for a she-ra in there too alongside Hordak and King Grayskull.

Otherwise though the thing that'd make me actually bite is if they were 4 inch figures in scale to Marvel Universe or the previous Thundercats line, or even the current TMNT line.

At 6+ inches, I'll pass still. They consume too much space at that size.

I would rather have 200x styled characters in the DCUC design than the character designs in that picture

The short answer for me would be no. Not really a big fan of the designs in that image. When I first saw the news post, I was thinking of a more realistic approach to the MOTU costumes - especially for He-Man himself (and a jumpsuit with oddly-placed padding ain't it).

But I might bite if they do it in 3.75" scale AND get it to mass retail. No online, Con, sub or direct marketing exclusives, either. I know this is nigh-impossible to make a reality and that's on purpose. It should show how little I want them.

REALISTIC? Man, you know MotU is a cross between sci-fi and fantasy, don't you? They're made this way 'cause they must look like nothing of this world! Your request is odd, at best

well, 200x style figures have already been done, so buy those ones! now they're out of commission, maybe prices are low enough to take a lot of them

No the 200X figure have never been done in a DCUC style. The figures that were made looked great, but had very limited articulation. My point was that the 200X line had a lot better character designs than what was shown in the New 52 picture in the article in question.

Uh, I didn't say anything about 20XX, so I don't know why you're attributing that quote to me.

It's not a request, it's an opinion based on my personal preferences and ideas of a re-design of the MOTU concept in the new 52 style. And who says they must look like nothing of this world? It's a re-design, meaning it does not have to follow any of the previous interpretations (though there would have to be certain cues so it is still recognizable as MOTU, obviously).

And I've been collecting toys for over 30 years. I'm pretty sure I know what the original MOTU was about, since I was around when it first started. Now go away before I get my cane and chase you down in my Rascal.

Not sure if I have an opinion about these new designs. They seem similar to 200x designs. Once they make them, I'd have to see it in person.
