There’s been some LEGO happenings lately that we never properly covered, so I figured that now in post Toy Fair world we could do a little post to round some of them up.
First off, the ever popular LEGO Minifigure series is finally getting a chase figure. That’s right after nine different collections of standard 16 mystery minifigures per series we will now be getting something new thrown into the mix. It turns out that LEGO will be introducing a rare gold minifigure starting with Minifigure Series 10 and that gold minifig will be limited to 5000 pieces world wide. Each Golden Minifigure will have a unique code that will allow them to be tracked on LEGO.com to see how many have been found.
Speaking of special minifigures, certain VIP members have been receiving a little surprise in their mailboxes recently. A red chrome minifig keychain has been making it’s way to certain customers along with a Valentine’s Day card which thanks the customer for being a valued LEGO VIP customer. It was said that not every LEGO VIP member will receive one, and there is speculation that the criteria may be based on purchase frequency or amount from a physical LEGO store or from shop.LEGO.com.
And finally we now have images of the boxart for another LEGO DVD/Blu-Ray release. LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite will apparently come to us in a Blu-Ray + DVD + Ultraviolet combo pack AND will be packed with a special Clark Kent Minifigure as a bonus. The movie is due out on May 21, 2013.
LEGO News Roundup - Special Minifigures and Batman The Movie
Just a short news catchup. The special Gold Minifigure being introduced in Series 10, the special VIP red chrome minifigure keychain, and a special minifigure with the LEGO Batman movie release!
Just out of curiosity, are the gold ones going to have the bumps on the package or whatever?
Hell, I don't even know if they STILL do that, because I never used those. But I'm mainly hoping they're not doing that. Because if they are, it means I'll never have a chance to get that gold minifigure.
I'm I VIP member, and only bought 2 things from the Lego store and Disney World. And the second one was just in time to stop the points from expiring. But they will have to do better with their prices (both the items cost and shipping) before I will buy anything from the online Lego store besides just a key chain. Lego is just too overpriced!

Why is there a space in my last cough? When I read it, it says cou gh. When I edit it, it's still cough
Gold mini figure? Why is that a big deal, it's just a minifig painted gold right?
True story.

For me, the bump code thing never really worked, but given the extremely limited nature, I seriously doubt they would want to clue anyone into which one is the gold one.
Not quite sure how I feel about it personally. I've been doing the LEGO Minifigure thing since day 1, and I loved how things have been going. I understand the point in introducing something like this the continue to generate excitement. I just know from experience in other realms of collecting I was a part of, when "chase" figures and short packed variants are introduced, the fun starts dwindling and things can get a little bit uglier.
I'm still in as I have been and always will be. I'm just going to pretend the gold figure doesn't exist, because I don't want to drive myself crazy or poor trying to get one.
I've spent an obscene amount of money on Lego this last six months, so I was rather chuffed to get the VIP keychain.
