Phoenix Rising Toys Confirmed By Head Writer

Posted on February 6, 2013 at 10:45 am by Joe Moore under General Toy News

Last year, it was announced that the 80’s TV show, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future would be getting a full reboot. The new show will be called Phoenix Rising, with original series creator Garry Goddard being fully involved. Now, according to the Twitter Feed of head writers J&G Reeves-Stevens; we will be getting action figures based on the series. They have been posting some teaser concept art pieces, and let slip the news.

Here’s the quote:
@jpbernard82 You’re going to be collecting a lot more figures soon!

I'll be damned! Now this is very exciting news. Can't wait to see what they've got in store for us old school Captain Power fans.

This was my favorite TV show in 3rd grade. I was infatuated with anything that had a post-apoc setting. I'm interested to see these new offerings.

I wonder if it will have interactive video/game toys? Probably something that would more resemble today's Skylanders...?

Bring on the toys! I've been toying with the idea of getting some of the old CP figures, but new and improved ones would be a lot better.

    Captain Power Lives!

Looks like Mattel will still have the toyline, but that we won't be seeing Phoenix Rising toys right away; instead we'll be getting highly detailed original Captain Power toys for adult collectors.

I don't see it happening, but the vehices would be great. With today's technology you could have it interact with a downloadable app, seeing as light gun technology doesn't work with todays TVs. But I'd really like to see how this line turns out

Good luck to them Captain Power was a fantastic show. Kinda adult but still awesome. Would support Captain Power but I think MOTU is the only figure line I can pay $25 a piece for. I don't have that much love for Captain Power sadly.

I kind of wish they'd go GI Joe scale.
But with Mattel, I can see why not. They only seem to do good at the MOTUC or DCU size. Plus the cross brand play helps a ton for displays and kids alike.

I just hope this means a return of good 1:18th figures from mattel on the new one.
The first one besides all the badass gimmicks, was also one of the few figures on par with GI Joe in both size, sculpt and articulation. I'd like that to be true again for the modern versions of both. (I keep the classic one in my IM armory, and the wings from the silver bird bad robot are now on my custom Ultron.)

There's not a lot of people that care about Captain Power. I never got into it & I'm sure most people don't even know what it is. It's no MOTU that's for sure.

What will they try to bring back next? Sectaurs? Wheeled Warriors? Crystar? Manglor? Man-Tech? Centurions? Air Raiders? Starcom? Blackstar?

I would welcome more than half of those properties as new toys to be honest.

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors can be updated easily(doesn't even need a reboot!).
Silverhawks needs one definitely(doesn't even need a reboot!).
Inhumanoids definitely(doesn't even need a reboot!).
Centurions too(doesn't even need a reboot!).
MASK, and Micronauts are both slated.

The rest need to stay buried in the past or maybe one shot revival movies. Well... Except for maybe Bravestarr(doesn't even need a reboot!). That'd be another interesting one to update.

Captain Power also isn't too surprising. It's pretty much Terminator for kids. One of the big things to always keep in mind on series and concepts is to hit key elements of modern fears or dependancies. Well, technology is an ever growing modern fear as is the effects of long standing immediate satisfaction. So it'll be interesting to see how this show is reconceptualized. Re-using an IP that represents that already makes the transition easier and also helps avoid the problems behind a brand new IP.

This way it's new, but also old nodding. Brings in old fans and nostalgia, but still has enough new that it grabs attention. This gives it an installed fanbase, and also room to experiment as a "new" IP. That's one of the perks to retitling a remake at least. It has old, but it's also new. It does a little borrowing but avoids the blue(so it's not a tardis!).
