Leaked Man of Steel Toys Test Commercials

Posted on October 16, 2012 at 9:19 am by Joe Moore under DC Toy News

Bleeding Cool has posted two videos on YouTube. The videos show extremely early mock-up commercials for upcoming Man of Steel toys. Please keep in mind these are nowhere near meant to be seen by the public. They even use footage from Superman Returns to fill in the bits where Man of Steel footage would go. But it gives us a look at the Superman Flightspeeders and Superman Exploders toys.

Keep in mind POTENTIAL SPOILERS and these are mearly early test commercial concepts.

Since these were created over a year ago, these may not even be toys that come out. Certainly wouldn't be the main toy line, as these are clearly just aisle filler kiddie stuff.

I like how you can combine a bunch of crappy toys into one giant crappy toy. I sort of like the stretch one though. My nephew might dig that.

Ok, SO we now have a superman stretch armstrong toy... rip off! I actually like the look/design of the alien spaceship, but that is it,... I will say that if you buy yourself 1 of those superman toys and keep it moc for 20-30 years maybe worth a fuck ton as kids will be destroying the fuck out these toys lol.

The stretchy arm slingshot toy seems like an odd gimmick to give to a Superman figure.

Almost feels like it was a design meant for something else that they repurposed for the new Superman line.

Wish I could say I was surprised that a bunch of adult collectors once again have no concept of the fact that companies want kids to want their toys.

These look like they would be fun for kids. As with the past couple or three Mattel lines, I'm sure that once again the only line worth even looking at for adult collectors will be the inevitable Movie Masters. Just as the 3.75" offerings will inevitably be underarticulated, under-detailed, ridiculously repainted and recycled trash where adult collectors are concerned. Mattel clearly has the model they started with Green Lantern and reused with Dark Knight Rises. If GL's failure wasn't enough to get them to change their ideas, I don't see them changing it for MoS.

Im wondering if the stretch bit doesn't come from sfx where ala St:tng where as they accelarate the stretch and blur.

I Just want one decent supes in 3.75 scale.

We get that. We just think that Superman with stretchy powers is stupid. With all the other powers he has, this one is unneeded, unusual, and unwelcome. This would be a fine toy idea for the Stretch Armstrong movie in development, or Plastic Man, or Elongated Man. Not Superman. Unless this new movie is REALLY taking Superman in a different direction.

So even if little Johnny sees the commercial and says he wants some of these, it sounds like a lot of us (assuming we're the parents here) wouldn't spend our money on these. Ultimately, if that what they're offering, and my kid wants Superman stuff, he'd want and get LEGO over this.

YOU might get that (even if your argument seems to be more based on "ZOMG SUPERMAN DOESNT HAVE STRETCHING POWERS THATS SO DUMB AND INACCURATE!!!" than any objective viewing of the toy), but clearly some other people here don't.

I mean, Batman doesn't ordinarily wear suits in all the colors of the rainbow, but that doesn't stop Mattel from putting them out. Once again, it's a toy for kids being sold more on the "launch it and smash stuff" feature than purely the "stretching" feature (hence the "exploders" name). I think you might agree Superman does have a tendency to fly into stuff and break it? I highly, highly doubt that "canon accuracy" is a concern in this case. It's generally only adult collectors that really care about that.

Your final paragraph is rather troubling and contradictory. You're saying parents shouldn't buy a toy their child wants simply because they think the concept of the toy is inaccurate? That seems ridiculously petty. I assume your final sentence is reflective of your child's actual taste in toys though, and not you saying your child will want and get Legos because you told him he wants and gets Legos regardless of what he actually wants.
