Art Asylum Reveals New Star Trek Ships For DST

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 12:02 pm by Joe Moore under Star Trek Toy News

Art Asylum has revealed a couple of new Star Trek Electronic Ships that they are producing for Diamond Select Toys. The two ships include the Excelsior-class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-B and the Klingon Bird of Prey. Check out soem more info below.

Art Asylum has been making electronic Star Trek ships since 2001, when they first made toys for the TV show Enterprise, including an electronic NX-01. Since then, Art Asylum has moved on to other Star Trek shows, including the original series and The Next Generation, and even feature films, and their miniature Starfleet now includes ten different models, all with lights and sounds. Lately, the line has been on hiatus, but AA partner Diamond Select has undergone a refit and is ready to start producing new ships again! The next two to be released are movie ships — the Enterprise-B and a Klingon Bird of Prey!

One of the most fan-requested Star Trek ships, the Excelsior-class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-B starship is finally on its way! Based on the ship’s sole appearance, in Star Trek: Generations, the Enterprise-B features authentic sounds and dialogue from the film, as well as light-up weapons and engines. The ship measures 16 inches long and comes with a Starfleet-insignia display stand.

The Klingon Bird of Prey, as seen in multiple feature films, is their first non-Enterprise ship in the line. This version is based on the unnamed ship commanded by Admiral Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which could fire while cloaked, and it features authentic sounds and dialogue from the film, as well as working lights. With its massive wingspan, the Bird of Prey measures 12.5 inches long by 19 inches wide, and the wings can move up for a landing approach or down for attack mode! Comes with a Klingon symbol display stand.

Expect both ships to hit stores closer to the end of the year. What’s more, most of the older Star Trek ships have been put back into production, with release dates ranging from fall to spring of 2013. Check with your local comic shop or your favorite online retailer to see what’s available!

See images of both ships by clicking the headline of the story.

Good to know that both of these are definitely being released. Not that I ever plan to buy either one, but it's nice to see them committing to their releases.

Interesting. Hopefully they stick to this. Would also be great if they still made some new ships too. If nothing else, I think they should at least do the Enterprise-C. It's the only Prime universe Enterprise they haven't done (the J doesn't really count).

Would be great if they got the license to do the new movie ships. Again, if nothing else, the Enterprise would be nice. Though I would scream like a little girl for a DS Kelvin...

Sweet. I'm more excited about the re-release of back catalogue ships. Finally a chance to grab the E, D, A, and Original, along with the B.

I have both preordered through bbts I hope they will one day be shipped. the problem with diamond select especially their star trek ships line is they take years nearly a decade in some cases to release their ships. they make amazing products but their production issues makes them look like the company is run by a bunch of chimpanzees.

maybe one day they will get it straight and release ships in a timely manner....

till then don't hold your breath on these being released at the current dates but in actuality a potential year in addition to waiting.

There's a long list of ships I'd love for them to make. Ent-C, Voyager, Defiant, Warbird, D'Kora, Galor, Reliant, Borg Cube, Jem'Hadar Warship...

I just want to get their Enterprise D finally because it goes nicely with my E. The f-toys Defiant pretty much perfect scale for the two as is the Furuta Jem'Hadar fighter. I'd only really be interested in ships that are in scale with the D and E so maybe a smaller Voyager would be cool or a Klingon cruiser.

I'm REALLY hoping to get my hands on an HD Enterprise. The first run is hard to find for a reasonable price these days.

As much as I love starships, I personally can't take a bite on these. Too expensive for what you get. And I don't see where they're that much better than the playmates (of which I have most of).

Now if they decided to go hog wild on a line that's in scale with itself, I'd be all over that.
The smallest ships be released in multipacks, and then integrate working lights (Sounds really do nothing for me) into the larger ships.

All that said, the working wings on the Bird of Prey really makes me want it.
