I was about to say maybe he has it as a backup piece, but to be honest...

... if you go up against something you can't handle with your power ring, what the hell kind of good is a pistol gonna do?

Slightly off topic, but is this guy's storyline any good? I saw that Geoff Johns basically wanted to make himself into a superhero and I flinched because he sucks at life. Anyone?

It's dumb in my opinion. And slightly racist. After 9-11 he and his family were treated like terrorists (due to their ethnicity) and 10 years later he's a Green Lantern with a gun and ski mask... That's just dumb. Don't get me wrong, the whole thing about his family be discriminated is a legit backstory, but a gun and ski mask? Really? Seems stereotypical to me.

Because the Guardians are attempting to dismantle the varioys Corps- including the Green Lanterns by sowing disent within each group- they put John on trial for murder, drummed Hal out, put Sinestro in, got the Alpha Lanterns killed, almost wiped out the Blue Lanterns and did wipe out the Sinestro Corps......

So now we get this masked bozo- someone obviously unutrained if he's got a damn gun...possibly brought in to sow more internal strife so the Guardians can replace everyone with their new mystery army and eliminate free will throughout the universe- the ultimate lobotomized order.

We can finally see the GL corps turn on those little blue bastards!
...and you can bet the the "New Guardians" book did not choose that title by accident either- there's one member of each color spectrum.

I am behind on my GL since the 52 came in, when did they kill of the Sinestro Corps?

There are far too many GLs in Sector 2814. Do we really need a Muslim lucha libre with a power ring and a gun? Are Hal & Sinestro dead in New52?

As I said, Hal got booted and is not an official GL anymore, John got conviced of murder and Guy led all the other GL's that were present on Oa broke ranks when the sentence was death- they broke John out of jail and fought the Alpha Lanterns to the death....so it's likely that John and Guy are at least on the run- as is Kyle after temporarly gaining ALL the spectrum's powers- and Sinestro is the GL of 2813, so there is a vacantcy.

Hal's not out of things just yet- Sinestro knew something bad had to be brewing so he used his will to make a new GL ring for Hal!
(this ring function was first shon back when Kyle had the only ring and again in Blackest Night)
Hal and Sinestro have been investigating and now know what's going on...but with no Sinestro Corps, the Blue Lanterns almost wiped out and their central battery destroyed, and the Red Lanterns almost all killed off after their central battery was posioned ....how can the Guardians be stopped?

It's crazy, but a really compelling storyline, so I'll reserve judgment on this "masked muslim" guy- hopefully he figures out (or gets instructed) that the ring makes him more than "angry guy with a gun".

Just remember the sucktastic first appearances of many beloved characters- Wolverine, Deadpool, Cable, etc.

Just seems like comics these days are trying too hard to be uber PC and the first to do these publicity stunts.

LOOK! The first gay wedding in comics!!!

    LOOK! The first Muslim superhero!!!

We are so hip and ahead of the curve!

It would actually be kinda cool if the stories were any good....*ahem*

    rant over :P

Food for thought, to gay, muslim and other marginalized kids out there these heroes are a beacon of light and acceptance. I applaud DC/Marvel for having the brass to put it out there. Stop the hate mongering. I agree it gets hyped way too much but if they don't sell comic books they don't get to keep publishing them. The real blame for all the hype is the media and bloggers. They are the ones who go ape [email protected] and then all the money struck, brainwashed idiots out there go out any buy every copy to flip on ebay trying to cash in like its the California gold rush and then the media goes ape [email protected] over that again and this cycle feeds itself. For a country that prides its self on its diversity and freedom, we sure don't put our money where our mouth is. Now if they really want to do something uber shocking they should create a female, (lesbian?), muslim or indian hero.

PS: A gun is good backup if your power ring fails or looses power...anyone with an android phone can tell you that like me......lol

I'm just saying in the GL-verse, this is just one of 3600 sectors, and this sector has countless stars & planets, but now we have (depending on the continuity) at least our 5th GL from Earth?

Alan Scott & Batwoman can both be gay as the day is long for all I care. Nightrunner showed early promise within the Batman, Inc. universe, and for anyone who keeps up with French politics, the world needs some attention on the French Muslim community. But this GL Simon character is bad and Geoff Johns should feel bad.

Preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeety sure no one dislikes the character because he's Muslim. Preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeety sure people dislike the character because he's a flying stereotype.

Obviously the character's religion doesn't matter to us, it is the way in which the character's storyline and background are so poorly executed that is being questioned. 5th GL from Earth? 9/11 backstory? Unoriginal, rehashed crap, and Geoff Johns sucks.

I'll stick with Alan Scott as my GL of choice so far in New 52.

I think part of the backstory is alright. It shows how he and his family were discriminated for something they had nothing to do with. In my opinion, that shows how he can build up willpower and all that.... But 10 years later, in an act of desperation he steals a car and gets a power ring. That doesn't scream willpower to me. And I'm a broken record here; but seriously? A gun and ski (or ski like) mask? Woooooooooooooooooow...

Blah blah blah...you know a group that's being marginalized and targeted by hate right now, not just in the U.S. but globally? Christians, esp. Catholics in Muslim countries.

And yet you hear nothing about this from the mainstream media, nor do you see any heroes or characters in comics, TV, or film who are Catholic or Christian, unless they're being depicted as crazy or evil.

So please, don't try to convince us that the super-leftists over at Marvel and DC are doing anything for anyone other than the current pet victims of the liberal movement. All the while, Catholics and Christians continue to do their thing without demanding acceptance or acknowledgment or a token character in any media.

And as a Catholic myself, I'm writing this simply to point it out.
