Art Asylum and Diamond Select Toys have announced a new line of Star Trek Select figures. The first figure to be released will be Mr. Spock. Check out more info below:
For years, Star Trek fans have repeatedly opened hailing frequencies, demanding the return of 7-inch Star Trek figures — well, Diamond Select has heard their transmissions! This winter, DST plans to release the first in a line of Star Trek Select figures, depicting iconic characters from across the Star Trek universe in the 7-inch scale fans have asked for. Each figure will come in DST’s famous Select packaging, and will include a diorama-style display base as well as interchangeable parts to recreate scenes using that diorama. And the first release in the line is the most iconic Star Trek character of all, Mr. Spock!
Depicting Mr. Spock as he appears in the classic episode “Devil in the Dark,” this figure includes a cave diorama with a Horta alien — the first Horta toy ever made! Spock himself will have interchangeable legs for standing or crouching poses, and interchangeable hands to hold a phaser or establish a mental link with the Horta. He even comes with an alternate screaming head! The figure will be available in early 2013, and will be followed by James T. Kirk, as well as numerous other important and fan-requested characters from the Star Trek diaspora. The Marvel Select line celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, so here’s to (at least) ten years of Trek Select!
Beam aboard this new Star Trek toy line today, and pre-order Mr. Spock at your local comic shop or your favorite online retailer!

Diamond Select Toys Announces Star Trek Select
Looks like a statue.. Is that an early mock up?
It's weird, but Devil in the Dark is probably my favorite OS episode, which is why I'm actually kind of tempted to get this. I would prefer a figure that has leg articulation, rather than has two sets of legs, but the figure itself actually looks good. The great looking base helps a bit too. I'll probably wait for a review or two, maybe even an in-person look, before making a decision when it comes to Spock here.
I'll definitely get McCoy when he's made, and there's a good chance I'll get Scotty (though I'm really hoping they delve into the movie stuff, and give us a movie Scotty). I can't imagine getting the entire crew, and I'm not really interested in the Kirk vs. Khan set that's in the works.
Would prefer articulation over swap outs. Playmates made FANTASTIC although out of proportioned figures in the 90's (my father had ALL the original figures and TNG toys and ships), that had some articulation and also looked remarkably like the actors.
As for Mr. Scott, I will ONLY consider it if he is missing his right middle finger. Only for an homage to James Doohan, who was a brave soldier long before becoming a Star Fleet Engineer... and I hope the figure comes with a diorama from "the Trouble With Tribbles"... with an extra set of arms carrying a load of Tribbles.
I don't understand swapping out parts over articulating the figure.
I also don't know of any trek fan who's been "asking for 7" figures for a long time."
Playmates tried that and it failed miserably for them. NECA (I think?) had pretty good success with theirs. But I think these are going to crash and burn harder than the original enterprise and the D, in their final battles.
