DST Announces New Line of Universal Monsters Bust Banks

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 12:57 pm by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News

On the Art Asylum site, a new line of Universal Monsters Bust Banks were announced by Diamond Select Toys.

Get your money out of that dusty vault and shine it up nice, because Diamond Select Toys has a new place to keep your cash! Spinning out of DST’s successful line of Star Wars bust banks comes the all-new Universal Monsters series! The most famous monster of all, Frankenstein’s Monster, will kick off this new line of 8-inch vinyl banks — from the front it just looks like a high-quality bust, but turn it around and there’s a slot to stick your change in! Nobody will want to raid your savings when they’re safe inside this resurrected giant! And the second release in the new line was a no-brainer: after all, if you were going to make a bust featuring highly detailed sculpts and paint, what monster would you want to see done right? The Creature from the Black Lagoon, of course! The scaly mer-monster has never looked better than in this detailed bank, and if you turn him around you can insert your loose change in a slot behind his gills. He’s the next evolution in banks! Look for both Frankenstein and the Creature to hit comic shops and specialty stores this September!

Wow, hey, I can get into these. Depends on the consistency and pricing, though. Problem with Universal Monsters is that the consistency sucks. You get like 3 good figures/busts and then the rest are junk. Example, you get a Frankenstein's Monster that looks just like Boris Karloff but then you get a Dracula that looks NOTHING like Bela Lugosi and a Wolfman that looks NOTHING like Lon Chaney Jr. I'd hate to fork over coin on a nice Frankenstein's Monster and Creature from the Black Lagoon and then have nothing else I want.

From what I understand, the Legosi estate refused to release the rights to his likeness for use as Dracula, which is why the DST figure looked so different.
