Mattel New 52 Batman Revealed And DC All Stars Update

Posted on March 11, 2012 at 2:22 am by Shin Densetsu under DC Toy News

Alright, let’s start with the bad news 1st. Not too long ago, site sponsor BigBadToyStore sent an email to customers who preordered 2012 DC Universe All Stars figures, stating that set 1 had been changed, with subsequent waves and figures(like Larfleeze) canceled:

“Hi – We have just been told that this assortment has been cancelled, and that the Series 01 set has been changed to JLA Superman, JLA Batman, Red Robin and Superboy Prime, with all other waves and figures being cancelled. If you are interested in the Series 01 set and have not yet ordered, feel free to place a pre-order for that item instead. We thank you for your order, and apologize for the inconvenience. “

Meanwhile, if you were wondering how DC Universe All Stars New 52 Batman would look like, wait no more, as BBTS revealed the new figure! Here’s the description:

“A noted detective and strategist, Batman is among the most capable physical combatants on the planet. In addition to defending Gotham City against an array of depraved super villains such as the Joker, Bane and Two-Face, Batman serves as a core member and chief coordinator of the Justice League alongside fellow heroes Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash. “

Check out the new Batman figure after the jump!

so I just got an email from BBTS, saying that Mattel just cancelled this figure. Thoughts? I for one am rather pissed at this, seeing as I had pre ordered 2 of these figures.

He was oversized, no? I didn't follow the events of Blackest Night as closely as many, but he was depicted quite differently by the various pencilers. How accurate is the DC Direct version? I think I prefer their metallic paint finishes on the Blue & Orange lanterns especially. I know I for one prefer the DC Direct Orange Luthor to the DCUC version.

I wonder if this means the Super Powers Penguin figure will also be cancelled. I wasn't too crazy about that figure, but I likely would have purchased an All-Stars Larfleeze.

Not just Larfleeze but according to the email the entire All Star line has been cancelled, with only Superman, Batman, Superboy Prime and Red Robin being released as a one-off retail wave.

What the hell is going on?

Damn, well I'm glad I picked up the DCUC Penguin (non Super Powers) while I still could.

What a pathetic mess. This had better at least be because they're moving it onto MattyCollector or some other thing or it'll be really lame.

I don't get how they can announce these figures and just pull the plug without saying why. That is a dick move if you ask me, and I shouldn't have to use their stupid sub just to get a couple decent figures so I will go out of my way to buy them black market-style if they end up on MattyCollector.

my 2 main wants were SBPrime and Larfleeze, Larfleeze mainly cause I dont wanna spend an arm and a leg trying to get the DCD version. Dick move Mattel, dick move.

Jetty ANGRY! YOU CAN'T TAKE WHAT'S MIIIINE! MIIIIIIIINE!!!!!

But seriously, majorly pissed over this. Larfleeze was literally the highlight of the year for me.

Hopefully this is restructuring to launch the line with major players (Although TWO Supermen is a little strong, IMO), and will move the smaller names like Larfleeze to later. (I didn't read anything about this being a one off line in the email I got)
If not, they seriously better roll him over into Club IE.

Can someone post the BBTS email contents? I was looking really forward to Superboy Prime, Red Robin, & the Steel re-issue.

I don't think the toys are actually cancelled, I think Mattel is just shuffling around the retail waves and case assortments. By changing the cases, it forces retailers to cancel preorders because they can no longer estimate their available stock.

I'm sure once the distribution is resorted preorders will go back up for everyone, just moved around between waves. At worst some less mainstream figures would be moved to the sub.

    /speculation

note: I haven't seen the email, just heard about it.

Still...regarding Larfleeze, it was a terrible representation of the character- he should me much skinnier and less human in body type- his skinniness is central to the character- he eats and eats but (because of the Orange Lantern) is never satisfied.

Noooo! Does this mean I have to go to DCD for a new 52 team or does anyone think Matty will just create a whole new line name?

Has there been an official Matty statement yet that anyone is aware of?

BBTS has listed DC All-Stars Redo. I'm guessing they REALLY wanted to have it be only the A-list characters. That version of Plastic Man (Flashpoint?) wasn't going to cut it. I'm guessing they put the rest of the stuff in the subscription. Hopefully they wouldn't totally waste their efforts with Larfleeze by not releasing him. And I think they're just keeping Red Robin because it says "Robin." Kinda glad they cut Supergirl too.

Maybe the first couple waves will be A list characters then once they see how things are selling then they will release the rest

Best mold for him is the Black Lantern Abin Sur. Tall, skinny, and double jointed elbows and knees.
But, Atrocitus will be inappropriately small, why should Larfleeze be vaguely correct?

This dosent bother me at all. I have DCD Batman Beyond which I feel looks better that the DCUC Version and I have Steel Already. I didn't see him in the BBTS Email as being released so I wont buy another then. I am looking forward to the New 52 Superman and Batman. I have to see teh New 52 Superman in person I just hope the S-Shield is bigger on his chest Like what the DCD Version looks like. Otherwise I will just get the DCD version. So all in all This news doesn't bother me at all. So I am good.

It sounds like they just wanted to restructure the line up to have the big boys in the first wave hitting stores. I mean Superman, Batman, Robin and Superboy would sound better to me if I was a retail chain. Plastic man I can live without and I had Batman Beyond already. I don't see them doing away with "evil" supergirl, Supergirl is still an A-lister in their eyes, but I would like a New 52 Supergirl and they showed the 52 Flash and Larfleeze already sculpted, and I don't see them waisting the molds. They always said that the All Star line was for A-list characters and Re-do figures, so the Justice League people and New 52 people is what it will be mostly. No more Wizard, and Black Vulcan in mainstream lines that won't sell in stores, only the Big Names for DC.

He definitely should not be the old "Hal Jordan body with new head/hands" gag- he's designed to be a sorta thin warthog guy- even standing straight (which he rarely manages) he's more of a spider-man (or BL Abin Sur) type build...but that would require a new buck so...
Same goes with Atrocitus- why buy a figure out of scale with all the rest of your collection?

No re-use body is as galling as their JSA Atom though. The entire point to his character is that he's short- and they used the Hal/Batman buck for him...that's like useing the same body for Big Barda as Black canary...

this is an Odd thing there is nothing on Mattycollector about this.. even people on the forum have gotten no Reply. (This is my opinion) The Emails you have recieved are from BBTS something isn't Right think about this Wave 1 was Shown at NYCC correct, and Wave 2 at NYTF correct, wave 3 and the Regin of Supermen (no actual proof of its legitness) announce the last two shortly after they were on BBTS they lasted what a week and were pulled down (This is my opinion not the Web Sites) then someone is full of toilet water and I don't think its Mattel so I expect Series 1 and 2 as expected (I am sorry if anyone gets offended but if theres nothing on Mattel then nothing changed)
