ThreeA Toys Metal Gear Rex Preorder is Live

Posted on March 2, 2012 at 5:05 pm by Deefuzz under Video Game Toy News

The day ThreeA fans and Metal Gear Solid fans have been waiting for since 2009 is finally here. Metal Gear Solid Rex is now available for preorder at ThreeA’s online store Bambaland.

MGS Rex stands close to two feet tall, has working lights (including a light-up railgun feature), and will run you $490 shipped from Hong Kong (if ordered through Bambaland). Again that is $490 shipped, for a very large and heavy package from Hong Kong. The have said that Rex will ship out in August.

It was revealed via Tweets, Facebook messages, and through the 3A Legion Forums that MGS Rex will also be made available through Sideshow Collectibles, so those who miss out on today’s sale at Bambaland will have a second chance to secure this highly sought after collectible at that time (though most likely will not be $490 shipped). Anyone interested should head over to Bambaland right now and get your order in (there’s only a few hours left of the sale), or stay tuned for news on when the preorders will be available at Sideshow!

EDIT: The Bambaland sale has now ended. For those still wanting a Rex, stay tuned and be ready for when the Sideshow Collectibles preorder goes live!

... as much as I'd love to keep this under my hat in the off chance that this ends up being a limited release and I want to cut down on the number of people who might know about it, it's ludicrous to think that SOMEBODY isn't going to mention this eventually, so here goes.

Do you like high quality toys? How about Metal Gear Solid? Have you, like me, had a perpetual wet dream since roughly 1998 wishing that someone would make a Metal Gear Rex toy?

Ashley Wood (god bless that man) and Kojima have your back -

No word yet on release date, price, or if it'll be sold through Sideshow or just through 3A's online store as of yet.

From comparison shots the size will be somewhere around 15-17" tall, like the 3A World War Robot figures it'll likely be made from a combination of PVC, Cast Resin and ABS plastic, and the price will likely be in the range of $300-400.

    EDIT:
In case people are coming from other places that have linked to this article, the pics aren't mine - They're originally from here:

I'm just trying to spread the love

Ironically, I was already working on the FP for this based on a report from Gogdog.

I've only seen quotes of $200 for Rex so far. Would there be any indication it's going to reach $400? I realize that 3A is on the expensive side, but still.

Well, the original Berties were $300, and they weren't as big as this, plus being a licensed product there's always a % increase due to royalty requirements. There's nothing that says it'll be $300+ other than my own intuition on the subject and familiarity with their past releases.

3A doesn't do cheap stuff, that's for sure. If this is in the $200 range I'll eat my hat.*

    * and then buy two of them

That's insane! I'm on board, depending on how big it is. I'd like some scale MGS figures to go with it!

Of course. Actually, I had to take a moment and think about how big that would be. Did any of you ever see those Haloclix figures, and the Scarab? That thing was big as hell. Arsenal Gear would make that look like a shrimp even in that scale.

A 1/6 Arsenal would still be bigger than most bedrooms.

Which is why I was thinking about it in terms of miniatures...even then it would be the size of half of one. Crazy stuff. Can't wait till some pioneering Japanese person does it!

I hope it's not too soon, they need to announce it with a few months of time so those of us who aren't totally loaded can save up for it!

$400 sounds insane, but if I have a couple of months to save up I can do that no problem!

I can't believe its almost 2 years later and still nothing else on this.

I'm scared for when it is released because it will be expensive as hell, it will take up a lot of space, and a lot of people are going to want it.

I just saw this a few months ago on Kotaku.com, I had no idea this had been floating around for close to 2 YEARS!!

Now my hopes are almost crushed... why is it that Video Game Mech figures are so damn hard to get...

I don't really even collect figures, statues or toys anymore and REX would be the only thing I would/could display with pride in my living room and even if I brought a chick over she would look at it with interest!

Sadly I've been waiting for a Jehuty/Anubis Statue or Figure so long that I wouldn't even buy it because of my not having a house or room full of figures like I used to back when I was 16-17ish... and I even heard through Comic-Con news this year that they might finally be bringing Jehuty Figures stateside... makes me sick how long it took them to, probably to promote the Z.O.E. HD Collection coming to PS3 soon...

I just got my 3AVOX newsletter and they had some new prototype images photos with more of the light up features. The images are also available on there online blog. They list Rex at 42cm tall, which is about 16.5 inches. It also lists Rex as on sale in Januray 2012.

Here is a link directly to their production blog: threeAonline/blog

The railgun is also supposed to light up. I have seen test video of this. They also have Metal Gear Ray planned for release some time after Rex. I am definitely saving up for these guys.

Oh Jeez, if it is I may have too seriously look into getting this. But, knowing 3AA it's probably going to be in the $400-$500 range with a limited run and sold out within days of it going up. They do great stuff but I've never been able to get any of their product yet.

I just found a picture of someone holding it over at Superpunch...

    http://superpunch.blogspot.com/2010/...reea-toys.html

    I'ts huge but I don't think it's 1/18th scale.
