Watch Toy Hunters on Travel Channel Jan 15th

Posted on January 10, 2012 at 7:44 am by Joe Moore under General Toy News

Millionaire Playboy is reporting on a new Travel Channel show called Toy Hunters. The show is set to debut January 15th at 11:00 PM EST.

Follow Toy and Collectibles dealer Jordan Hembrough and his team as they travel the country searching out the rarest and most sought after toys and pop culture collectibles! Join Jordan as he meets incredible people and learns about the history of some of the most popular toy lines in the past 30 years. He’s out to uncover the Holy Grails of the collecting community… and time is running out!

Travel with Hembrough and his Hollywood Heroes as they journey to New York Comic Con, gathering rare and never before seen toys along the way. Comic Con is the “Super Bowl” of toy wheeling and dealing, gathering thousands of people each year. It’s the event where the biggest comic and toy collectors turn out to spend BIG money on the rarest toys!

Can Jordan “seal the deal” and turn his new found treasures into Toy Gold?! Tune in Jan 15th and find out! Tune in at 11:00pm on Travel Channel. Check your local listings.

These may be toys… but this aint child’s play!

    Grrreat.
Now we'll have every asshat looking to make a buck out there scalping as we look for the new waves.

oh no. no. no. NO. If this show takes off, its going to royally screw up the collectors market.

Lol, I want to know who wrote that press release, because they have the hype machine cranked to 11. I mean, would any of you consider NYCC to be bigger than SDCC?

My hope is that the show focuses on the really rare and vintage stuff, like MOC POTF figures from the 70's/80's, or some of the Mego figures. If they start getting into "modern" lines, then what bmorr said will certainly come to pass.

I'm looking forward to it. It's a show about something I like. I guess there's always a chance that some people might catch the show and try to make a few bucks from what they see there, but I'm addicted to Auction Hunters and I haven't gone bidding on any public storage units, so I think our nerdy little world will remain as it is regardless of what's on The Travel Channel.

Sorry to shit all over your morning first thing, but a friend told me about this a week or so ago

Spike TV's "Auction Hunters" is FAKE - The West Coast Truth™ - The World's Alternative News

The guys are douchebags, but I liked the premise of the show. Also, that website is mostly conspiracy theory stuff, so take it with a grain of salt.

Fantastic. Yeah this could potentially impact our hobby. I'm sure there was an increase in the turn out at storage locker auctions after Auction Hunters and Storage Wars.

Sure it would be cool to see a show based on our hobby, but it's going to attract more unwanted elements in our space so I would be better off without it.

My first thought was that everyone with a rare toy to sell will now want to raise their asking price after watching this show. But sooner or later reality will set in because they cant find a buyer. It will be interesting to see what impact at all this may have . Hopefully the impact will only affect SDCC dealings in 2012.

Yes will be interesting to watch...better stop having second thoughts on whether or not to pick up that "figure" now...and just go for it, because who knows when you'll see next this may open up a can of new scalper's...

I'm in the Storage Business, and even if 99% of the people who watch this show would never think about it....there is gonna be some percentage that will think they can get in the game...especially if it means money!! My auctions have gone from 2-5 people, to 85 people at my last one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! That is no Sh!t! It is a nightmare to have an auction now. my first reaction when reading this was NOOOOOOOO. take it from someone who knows...this show better flop!

See that's exactly what I was thinking. If you are already a collector or involved in this scene, then this is not good news at all. Sure it's a worst case scenario, but I don't like the potential there one bit.

This, and the guys who said he watches auction hunters (and regardless of whether it is fake or not...it advertises big finds and big dollars) but doesn't go out and bid on units, are simply one little experience among millions. Let's say a million people watch the show; 1000 decide to give it a try (that's .10%..and not 10%); of those, 100 (2 per state...obviously a very basic example) people become scalpers out for the buck.... that's 2 more NON collecting people I don't need in my area. Collectors I can bargain and work with.....not scalpers!

Obviously this is all fear related...but I'm telling you I have witnessed it with the 3 auction shows that now exist...and we're only talking about 1 little facility in 1 little town.

    Oy vey...

Ever since Pawn Stars took off, it seems collector/hobby reality shows are all the rage now. And while they tend to be better then most "reality" shows, it is starting to get kind of annoying that we have to turn everything into a show now.

If I recall the guy didn't sell them. Not on the show anyway. The pawn shop guy turned it down cause he felt it'd be too much of a hassle to price the collection.

Yeah, I think he would have had to buy it for about 1/2 the actual value, just to cover the cost of breaking it down into manageable lots so it could be sold piecemeal. But I thought the seller was asking for $30,000, not $3K?

At any rate, very few buyers are able to drop that kind of coin all at once, especially after the pawn shop adds its markup.

It does make me wonder how the pawn shop business has been doing since Pawn Stars and the others have debuted.

Well I'm glad I bought my Sideshow figures a few years back, because a show like this is going to ruin any chance of finding them for a reasonable price. I think that even if they focus on older stuff, it is still enough to bleed over into what we collect. I remember someone on here mentioning a while back that an old lady was trolling the toy aisles somewhere with a list of shit she didn't even understand trying to make a quick buck. Just imagine dozens of those people lingering around toy aisles for now on. It'd be enough to make me stop collecting altogether.

I worked in a collectible store when the whole "Storage-Pawn-American" Pickers crap came on and it RUINED! the business, everyone though there crap was worth so much because they saw it on tv.

This is total crap, I hope this show bombs! Its going to ruin our hobby, if we though finding figures was hard before, just you wait. Every Tom, Dick, and Mary will be out there grabbing our treasures to sell on ebay or scalping.

I hope everyone enjoyed it while it lasted.

    >_<
