Here we are on the final day of 2011, some of us may be reflecting back on the year while some looking forward to 2012. During this time a lot of people begin making resolutions (or goals) for the upcoming year: Things they want to change, work on, or focus on. It’s also a good time to reflect back on what we achieved this year, and how our previous resolutions (if we made any) came out.
Last year a thread created by behindthemask asked what your New Year’s Toy resolutions were. Throughout the year, Toyark members talked about their collecting related goals and things they wanted to work on by the end of the year. The end of the year is here, so it’s time to see how things went! If you made a goal or not, sound off in the thread and give us all an indication on how your collecting year went. Did you make any improvements or changes to your personal toy world?
This is also the time to plan ahead for 2012! We have a brand new thread where you can post up your goals and resolutions for the 2012 calendar year! Do you want to get your collection more organized? Buy less on ebay? Only buy from a certain line? Attend more conventions? Whatever your goal may be, sound off in the 2012 thread and let us all know. We can help inspire each other and grow as toy enthusiasts and collectors, and we can use this thread to keep us grounded, on track, and inspired all year long!
To report your results in last year’s thread click here. For the 2012 thread where you can plan out the year to come click here or click on the DISCUSS link.
2011 Thread
First let's start off with the Wikipedia definition:
The previous thread is linked above so you can check it out for reference or inspiration when thinking about the 2012 collecting year. List out your goals for 2012 here (whatever they may be), you can leave an explanation or a little background if you wish. Lets all inspire each other and grow as toy enthusiasts/collectors, and here's to a great 2012!
I was successful in my resolution for this year - I aimed to be more sensible in my buying, and indeed I have spent less this year than in any year since 2004.
My resolution for this year is to sell off all the things I don't want or need anymore, the volume of toys I have is crazy and I need to do something about it.
I dont make resolutions cause I know I wouldnt live up to them.
resolutions fall short. im committing to several things.
1.) buying less 3A toys (until they work on their sales methods and distribution times.)
2.) bettering my weathering techniques and sell more of my products.
3.) buy less toys in general.
4.) loosing weight so i can run better. the army is so unforgiving on fallouts.
5.) see more of Europe with my family.
Toy wise it's going to be to try and focus on the main items of my collection that are missing ie focus on the toys I know I need rather then the ones I think I need or impulse buy. Try to be smart with my $$ and don't overspend/ overbuy. and when the time comes which won't be that long I need to stop buying toys, save up and by myself a few display cases as I'm running out of room. I'm also in the process of selling part of my collection off so that I can use the funds to reinvest it in more meaningful figures.
This coming year I am gonna have to limit what I'm gonna buy... Splurged on one or two things this year, and ended up missing out on stuff I wanted. So in 2012, gonan try focusing on getting any of the old Transformers Classics/Generations figures that I've missed out on to fill in the gaps in my collection, and not get drawn too deep into other toy lines.
And as for my other resolutions, they are as follows:
1) Quit smoking (Nasty habit, I know..)
2) If not join a gym, then take steps to work out and get rid of my gangly frame.
3) Be more proactive with my writing, and actually finish a comic script this year.
I'd like to sell off the bulk of my toys I don't play with anymore.
I've got a bunch of Marvel Legends and Wrestling figures if anyone is interested.
Focusing on toy lines other than DC and Marvel will be a thing for me. For Christmas I got a S.H Figuarts Piccolo and...damn. The DBZ figures are my primary focus for next year.

I bought as many as I could over a period including some expensive ones like Juggernaut.
I'd like to sell them all to 1 lucky Arker for a low price.
Maybe I should catalog what I have and start a thread...
May be an idea. My brother and I are sitting pretty happy on Legends, minus a few characters here and there.
save up for avengers movie 6 inch toys as well as one HML klaw and emma frost and possibly others, i think that will be it

Here's a resolution for us each to keep, aside from buying toys at retail/lcs we should each try and make an effort to buy/sell/trade more with our fellow arkers then using sources such as ebay. It cuts down on buying from questionable sources, feedback is given which boosts positivity on both ends and makes more arkers want to do business. The $$ goes to a collector instead of a scalper/store and it also creates more website traffic to keep the site up for a long time to come. Plus we're all collectors so we know what retail costs are the high side of what ebay sellers are asking and a fair price, I mean for the most part as long as you make close to your initial investment back or in some cases more if its moc then why not do it and feel comfortable it's going to another collector. 1 man's junk is another man's treasure. just a thought.
Cut back as a whole. Cut down on comics, at $3.99 a book for some of them it adds up fast. Looking at the first 2 waves of the new DCUC stuff and the lack of C&C cutting back on figures won't be has hard as I thought. No 3rd Party Transformers stuff, that stuff is way to high. Cut back on traveling just to waste time and money going to places that never have anything.

I scored like 60 Legends over the last few months for under $100, so I'm hooked now.
For 2012, I want to finish a few of my MU dioramas, and I want to get fully into the new 2012 Marvel Legends line

good idea and i have thought about this but i'm more of a buyer than a seller and i dont want to take the risk of lost items and millions of complaints from customers , but i can see what you mean by help each other out that is indead a lovely thought but only problem i find is postage and think most people are likely to be located in the usa which makes it sometimes go up for me a Uk customer :L although i dont know for sure what other peoples reactions about postage is like.
And here's a nice IronMan lot plus a BEast and Cyclops I got off Ebay last month:
I have another lead on a lot of ML, around 20 for $40!
nice set up, I can't wait to get that faceoff IM and Mandarin off u.
I will control myself upon seeing what Retaliation brings. Furthermore, I will cut down on my Sonic-related spending. Heavily. Video games are all but right-out for now with the exception of Mass Effect 3 in March.
As for resolutions- I'm already well on my way to fulfilling my Priority One, which is join the USAF.
I guess a resolution I can make will b try and not go to crazy with driving long ways to find figures I once drove 8 hrs to san Diego looking for MU wave 13 lmao but it was hella fun
Still working on a more thought out list, but just wanted to add comments to those two items above.
Great idea for a thread, Deefuzz!
My resolution for 2012? The main theme will be "cutting back." As the host of a podcast focusing on super expensive toys/collectibles, the topics we cover each week have made it far too easy to fall down multiple rabbit holes. While I've still managed to stay afloat in this scary economy, I still wince every time one of those credit card bills come in, or when I have to explain to the wife why another box is on the front porch. That's not even getting into the space issues, as my office has become utterly overwhelmed by clutter.
I have to set some personal goals this year, which include being more careful with finances and buying a new home. Folks may notice me purchasing less and less as the episodes of Preorder66 carry on in this new year. I need to streamline my collection focus, and not just buy random stuff that "looks cool." I also need to SELL, SELL, SELL!
And, after suffering the devastation to my home/collection from Hurricane Irene in 2011, one of my biggest goals this year is to FINALLY sign up for Collectors Insurance. I urge all of you to do the same!
As for resolutions i need to:
1) Start thinking more about what i ACTUALLY want when purchasing so i can use my money more wisely...
2) Find a way to boost my customising self-confidence,and stop the doubting and second-guessing that currently cripples almost every custom i attempt.
3) Add that Mego Old B.O.B figure that iv always wanted to my collection.
4) Maybe buy a decent real camera for toy pics.
5) Commission a KICK-ASS custom of The Flaming Carrot!!
6) Try to get a 3A 12" Kuan Ti Plume.(then customise the s**t outta him!!)
And last but by no means least...
7) Make sure i get as much enjoyment as i possibly can from my toys!!!!
