We’ve all done it. Found something we wanted to buy in the toy aisle, but passed on it in hopes we would come across it again later when we had more time or money. Or maybe some of us found a rare or decently priced item we had wanted, only to return later to make the purchase and find out it is gone. I am sure we all have some lament for passing something by in hopes to get it later only to find it gone.
This Discussion Point brews from an older thread that has been picking up some steam lately. I know I have some regrets of my own in regards to passing items by, how about you? Sound off in the thread and share your stories and greatest misses when it comes to what collectibles you have just missed or were forced to leave behind!
I want to know from you, what's 1 time or more where you were at a store, fleamarket, vendor etc and found an amazing deal or rare item, set it down for a minute, only for someone else to come along and buy it before you, Or say you don't need it it'll be there when you come back next week, except it's not there when you come back next week. We've all experienced something of this nature if not in person, maybe online, you missed out preordering an item, or lost a super auction 10 seconds before it closed... stuff like that.
I have a few experiences
1) found the Marvel Icons Ghost Rider with Bike at winners in box, they had 2 of them, for $29.99 and I didn't buy it, something told me to but said it could wait, came back like 6hrs later, all gone.
2)At a local Cashconverters, someone just sold them their entire toy collection, in it was a box full of Marvel Legends figures of Iron man, captain america etc, selling for $10 each, just finished spending my $$ on some dumb boxset before seeing this... gone the next week
3)was bidding on an Iron man lot on ebay like 20+ figures, fell asleep before it ended and got outbid by $5... like $3-400 worth of toys for $65 and lost it.....
I have a few more but these are the major ones for me, we all talk about the joys of hunting, but nobody talks much about the hardtimes, the ones we want to forget.
Cybertron leaderclass Optimus Prime. I was like six, and for christmas, I asked my dad to buy me the toy. But he said it was pricy. Now I laugh at the prices it goes on the secondary market. And by laugh, I mean cry.
...IF your at a retail "giant"...stash it...learned that when I was like 8. Ive had my share of "Shit, I should have picked it up" moments...lol
you can buy a cybertron leaderclass OP for like 20 bucks used now on ebay.. lol.. but new for like 80-150 oddly.. but i kno what you mean
I was at Botcon last year and didn't know who Bob Budiansky was. When I found out I rushed over to any toys r us and all the G1 percepters were sold out so I couldn't get one autographed. Back home there were 4 in stock that I passed on countless times. I do have a Buster Prime autographed by Peter Cullen though!!!! And a revenge of the fallen Blu Ray signed by Bay and Cullen! So the trip wasnt a total loss. :-)
Recently I saw the Wal-Mart Green Latern pack on sale for 25 bucks!! Came back later..gone..
when I first started collecting marvel universe, at my toys r us they literately had a peg full of the regular version Vision figures.. At this time I was only collecting the main characters (iron man, spider man, x men, cap ap..etc..) boy..what a mistake..
I ended up only buying one of them out of the 7 or 8 that they had.. now you can go on ebay and see them being sold for 75 dollars..
ouch
When I was a kid my parents took me to a collector's fair and one guy had a 1st appearance of Spidey in great shape for around $100. My mom and I couldn't quite convince my dad to buy it.
bump*

The X-men origins wolverine and colossus 2 pack....god i want it!
I saw a Spider-Man 3 3/4 scale Carnage at Walmart...
...AND BOUGHT IT! =D
I mean, I begged my mother to buy it for me...
...I'm 22 years old :'(

haha exactly... I'm 23, have my own place, live with my gf and if I can't afford toys I don't bother.. If I got money then I go hunting if not then I don't bother looking at/for stuff I can't afford, that's what ebay and bbts are for
I wanna say I was 13, G1 Transformers have been long gone from the shelves, and I take a trip to Europe to visit family. In a shopping mall, I spot a US G1 Optimus Prime. I of course had no foreign currency, so I begged my mom for a "loan". Her response, "You can get it cheaper in the states." Yah, if they sold it anymore.'
And this is more of a general topic than Marvel specific. Moving to AF General.
Saw Armada Ultra Magnus once at Walmart and thought "Oh, it's a repaint, it will be here later." Never saw it again in stores.

Same thing happened with Alternators Swerve. Saw it one time and passed because it was a repaint. Now it's one of the rarest of the retail releases for that series.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Few Years back seen Masterpiece Starscream on clearance for 29.99 and I passed on it to get some other figures and figured they have 5 in stock, they'll have them next week. ALL GONE! Then seen the prices they were going for on Ebay and I almost kicked my own ass. Just recently I bought the Japanese G1 Colored Starscream for 135 bucks and just to think I could have gotten 4 of the Wal-Mart one for less then that.
Around 2003-2004 when the Hasbro 20th Masterpiece Optimus Prime came out I passed on it for it's price of around 70 dollars. Then it went on Clearance for 30 bucks and they had two. I didn't have any cash hardly on me so I went home to get some. Ended up waiting a bit and eating dinner thinking there was no way both would be gone with in a couple hours. I get back to Wal-Mart, both are gone! I felt like a freaking tool. Just recently bought him on Ebay for a 100 haha.
Had an opportunity to purchase both the ROTF Bruticus with both Fansproject add on kits along with a City Commander with Ultra Magnus for $270 shipped. A week later both are going for over $300 each. A few weeks ago paid $190 for ROTF Bruticus with FP add ons alone but missed out on a great deal and probably will never find the City Commander again.
just passed on a gi joe poc shock trooper...i didn't think i wanted one. when i decided (a day later) that i wanted it i went back and they were gone.
nope, I myself seen it at winners, along with the larger 6'' wolverine origins 2 packs and passed.. shame, now will cost me 2-3x what they were asking to buy it on ebay.

Overload was EVERYWHERE. For like, a year. Shelfwarming. Not going anywhere.
I had no idea Ultra Magnus would be such a hard find. And the only time I *ever* saw one, he was in the hands of someone else who got there just seconds before me.
I finally broke down to go get Overload, after weeks of fruitless searching, and by that time, there wasn't any Overloads to find.
My story for Swerve is identical to yours. Although, no big loss. That one doesn't hurt at all.
As a reverse of your experience, Arm. UM is the one that I'm not sweating now. I already own an Arm. Overload, so I've got the mold, and there have been other UM figures released since then that are much better molds and suit the character (not to mention a certain 3rd party item that was quite popular).
Last December I went into a Toys R Us and they had a whole shelf full of Masterpiece Grimlock. Having just bought a bunch of MU I thought "they have a ton of these things. I'll just grab one next time." Yeah...there was no next time. I've never seen it in the stores again.
