Gears Of War 3 Retro Lancer From NECA

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 6:18 am by Joe Moore under Video Game Toy News

Epic Games is releasing a Gears Of War 3 Retro Lancer. The Lancer, produced by NECA, will be available as part of select bundles for the Xbox 360 game, Gears of War 3. But it will also be available as a stand alone item come September 13, for those who don’t want the game.

Dubbed the Retro Lancer during the Lambent Invasion, the Pendulum Wars Lancer Assault Rifle was the preceding model to the Lancer Assault Rifle. Used primarily in the Pendulum Wars as the COG soldier’s primary choice weapon, it was abandoned about a year after Emergence Day because the weapon was ineffective to the Locust Horde’s fighting tactics. However, following the Sinking of Jacinto when supplies started becoming sparse, the Retro Lancer started cropping up in fighting forces once again

Details

– Created from the actual 3D data used by Epic Games in the Gears of War 3 video game

– Over 3 1/2 Feet in Length

– Trigger Activates Machine Gun Sound Effect

– Hand Painted with weathered and battle worn detail

I found these today at Toys R Us. I'm not sure I've seen them before.

Also, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. If it's not can a mod please move?

Edit: Sorry about the Justin Bieber photobomb

This brings up a big debate, as Wolverine is not in the movie, but apparently they need his image and product to promote it. The question is, is Wolverine bigger than the X-Men franchise?

When it comes to the movies, he might be.

He's always been the most heavily promoted character for each film, his standalone was a success, and I think it was easier on Hasbro to not make a figure line was because he's not featured in the film.

I'll be honest, now I think he is kind of overrated but as a kid who grew up in the '90's, I was a Wolverine fanatic. I had all the different variants from the Toy Biz line, dressed up as Wolvie for Halloween in I think '93, and when I was a freshman in high school, and the local comic store got the figures from the first X-Men film early, I overpaid just to get the Logan figure early.

Haha I'm on the same boat as you. Logan was the biggest hero for me during the 90s, as a kid. I was a nut for everything Wolverine--action figures, comics, etc. He's still appealing to me now, but not as much as before.

He probably is but that's not the reason for this (along with the two quickly thrown together comic-based/unrelated-to-the-movie First Class Comic packs) being the merchandise used to promote the movie.

The movie was rushed into production and Hasbro had to throw out some merchandise somehow. So a couple quick repaints of figures and accessory it is!

It's interesting to note that this is actually part of the Marvel Universe line. The back of the box even shows some of the series 3 figures you can collect. So this is the first ever accessory or role play in the line.

He's not part of the team, but he might be in it while they search for mutants as a one off cameo that doesn't really impact the story or movie except for a laugh. Mostly to keep his own continuity movie accurate since this takes place before he loses his memory, and before he officially joins them in X-Men 1.

I suspect we'll be seeing other more repackaged stuff as First Class does better and better at the box office. It seems like the reviewers are universally loving the film more than even thor. Which in turn is going to make retailers bug hasbro about wanting to capitalize on the success via merchandise.

Honestly... this is the first I've seen these branded under the Marvel Universe packaging, which to me is bizarro. I have seen these however for the wolverine origins movie, as well as the wolverine and the x-men cartoon show. Slightly different packaging and paint color choices, but still the same damn plastic piece of garbage product. 6 steak knives, a set of leather gloves and some ducttape, and you got yourself the real deal haha. These toys never really sold very well, IM0, These claws are on par with the Iron man clip on repulsar, Iron man Mask, and thor's helmet and hammer. The hammer I will say is actually pretty well done, and I'm somewhat waiting for them to go on clearance so I can justity buying 1 and displaying is on my wall.

How much is is the Nerf Mjolnir in Canada? Because I totally think it's worth $10 USD.

The Wolverine claw gloves, on the other hand, are definitely a clearance-only purchase, even with a new paint scheme. I would only pick them up if they drop to $10 for a set of two.

Now that I think of it, a Wal-Mart in my area actually had the ones in XMO:Wolverine packaging at the beginning of this year.
