Star Trek, Wizard Of Oz, 3 Stooges Potato Heads Summer 2011

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:42 am by Joe Moore under General Toy News

PPW Toys is bringing a whole slew of licensed Mr. & Mrs. Potato Heads to stores in Summer 2011. Following in the footsteps of the highly popular Star Wars, Transformers and Marvel Potato Heads, we will see some new licensed figures popping up in stores.

PPW Toys previously released KISS, Elvis and Pro Sports Potato Heads. This summer you can expect new Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head figures based on Star Trek, Wizard of Oz and the Three Stooges.

For more info and photos, simply click the headline of the story.

Star Trek Mr. Potato Head – Kirk and Kor

The first set of the Star Trek Mr. Potato Head series will “beam up” this summer! Featuring Captain Kirk and his original Klingon nemesis; Kor.

This highly detailed set includes a variety of components to mix and match and is perfect for play or display!

The set is $30 each and will be available by August 2011.

According to StarTrek.com, we will see sets that will include “Mr. Spock and Lt. Uhura, for example, and they may also feature familiar TOS equipment and Enterprise components.”

The Three Stooges Mr. Potato Head Set

Mr. Potato Head pays homage to everyone’s favorite Knuckleheads this summer. The Three Stooges Mr. Potato Head Collectors Set includes Larry, Moe and Curly with a variety of components to mix and match.

Wizard of Oz Mr. Potato Head Set

PPW Toys is proud to announce The Wizard of Oz Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head set. This special collectors set includes Dorothy and all her friends; The Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion.

Each figure is extremely detailed and features a variety of components to mix and match. The set will launch sometime during Summer 2011.

Well just saw this over on 4chan and figured I'd throw it here in case no one had seen it:

I'll wait for the comic series, if there is one.

My kids are going to fight over who gets to wear the helmet, but they can't. That's my helmet. I call dibs.

Well, we already know there's more than this on the way, since we've seen the Destroyer and the Frost Giant, however we have yet to see a single comic-inspired figure in this line. Most distressing.

Wow are their swords thick enough? LOL. It is almost the width of Cloud Strife's sword.

And yah... that helmet is mine! LOL.

Do we know if we're definitely going to get a Comic line?

There's no word as of yet for a comic line{maybe at Toyfair}. I'll probably get one Thor{whichever one looks best} for my "movieverse" but with only one Frost Giant, one Loki, and one Odin per case we'll see the same pegwarming for this line we saw with IM2 I'm afraid.

    Ah, fair enough.

Funny question, but does anyone remember the announcement for Iron Man 2 figures? Where the Movie figures and Comic figures announced at the same time or separately? I know the Captain America Line is getting comic figures, theoretically I'd imagine a similar thing happening for Thor...

I don't remember for IM2, however I'm thinking that Thor is going to be closer to a "Wolverine" line than an "Iron Man 2" line, and it looks like it's Captain America that's getting the bigger "push."

Based on a Q&A answer Hasbro gave a few weeks back, it sounds like there might be comic-based figures in the works for Thor, but the answer was dodgy enough to leave room for some doubt. As noted above...we'll likely find out for sure in a little less than two weeks at Toy Fair.

All we know for sure is that we've seen considerably less for Thor than we already have for Captain America (which gets released later), and that we haven't seen any comic-based figures. I've heard rumors/scuttlebutt that retailers did not have a lot of faith in the Thor line (Maybe burned by Iron Man 2 pegwarmers?) and so it may end up being pretty scaled-back, which may not leave much room for a dedicated "comic series" for Thor even if that's been the MO for Marvel's other movie-lines so far.

According to Kastor's Korner no, none of these come with helmets of any type. Likely going to be a double-dip for a later wave.

I found these listed in the Walmart computer system:

    Sif,
    Volstagg,
    "Fandra" (?),
    "Hoga" (?),
    Thor-Lord Of Asgard,
    All King Odin,
    Destroyer,
    "King Laufe" (?),
    King Loki,
    "INV FROST GIA",
    shield smash Odin

That is the thing hat annoys me most about this movie. If they only have helmets on for a very small portion of it then it will suck.

P.S. Shouldn't this be in the Marvel section?

I'll be happy with just a little bit of the helmets, honestly. It would look silly for Thor to be wearing it non-stop, and Ultimate Thor is fine without a helmet and this looks to be a combination of classic Thor with elements of Ultimate Thor (like most of the Marvel Movies so far).

As long as we get a figure with the helmet I'm cool. Besides, the fact that they're actually making a Thor helmet role-play toy would seem to me a sign that the helmet is perhaps more prominent than we've seen in the previews so far.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think there's definitely no comic-line for this film. I'd be really surprised if they gave us comic versions of Sif, Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun before movie versions.

I'm calling it now: Thor - Lord of Asgard, All King Odin, and King Loki will be the "helmet bearing" versions of those characters.

I think you may be right, I can't see a space anywhere on the Thor packaging allowing for a 'Movie/Comic/Concept' series label, where they are clearly on the Captain America cards (above the character's name) as well as the Iron Man 2 and XMO:W cards.

Yeah, I recall that folks had noticed that tidbit when the packaging for both lines was unveiled. This is a serious bummer for me. I suppose if the line takes off and is successful than comic-figures might make it into the mix (supposedly Hasbro is going to mix comic and movie figures into the "Armored Avenger" Iron Man line without separate assortments). Still holding out a shred of hope for Toy Fair, but it looks bleaker by the day for any chance of comic-based Thor figures using "movie style" sculpting and articulation (which as I noted earlier, I find superior to Marvel Universe, even if that line is improving as it goes along).

I absolutely agree, I do love MU but there is something far superior about the IM2 line. The figures just seem studier, not as flimsy as most MU. The proportions are better and the detail is incredible on most (most notably the movie Mark 1).The joints are more often nice and tight, and the characters are all in scale!

Here's hoping the line does well enough for some decent comic figures.

  21. decepticon_mark's Avatar decepticon_mark says

    02-02-2011, 10:45 AM

I really hate that we may not see a comic line for Thor{would have loved a Beta Ray Bill, though he may show up in a wave of MU near the movie release} but if they would give us the supporting characters in their movie style as listed in some of the earlier posts I could at least be somewhat satisfied. Afterall how do you fill your 3.75 scale Asgard with just Thor, Loki, Odin, Destroyer{we've seen the pics so he's coming}, and from MU, the Enchantress. Really need Sif, the Warriors Three, Balder, and Heimdall.

These look pretty good.. I plan to pick up the helmet and hammer for display purpases, same with cap and his shield and mask.. they look bad ass on display and as long as they're not like $50 they're mine... just seen captain america pics on bbts...

Captain America: The First Avenger (Movie) Toys, Action Figures, and Collectibles
will be interesting to see if they're variants. which ones will be rare etc.. winter solider is a must.. and will probably get most if not all the cap figures.. cept for probably the gay ones with a 4 wheeler or stupid looking mustang.. if the sculpt/paint is diff I will not buy... and tired of looking at this stupid booger blaster clip on arm cannons.. Iron man was somewhat ok.. looks crappy/cheesy for collectors but I CAN see the appeal for kids.. but captain america, spiderman and thor don't need this shit or a fucking 4 wheeler!!
