The Tron: Legacy merchandising machine is in full swing. Toys are on the shelves. you can run out and pick yourself up a little bit of modern nostalgia in the form of new Light Cycles, Recognizers and various action figures. Licensed clothing, school supplies, lunch boxes and more are popping up. A slew of other items, computer peripherals, video game controllers, prop replicas, and high end collectibles (hello Hot Toys) are on their way.
The question I put to toy fans is this…Are you snatching this stuff up? Do you plan to buy any of the toys or collectibles that are available or will be available? Click the DISCUSS button and let us know what you’ve bought, what you plan to buy or why you’re skipping this stuff all together.
Tron Legacy Toys - Are You Buying Or Planning to Buy?
I've seen them on shelves but haven't really had the urge to buy. Probably because I never had Tron toys as a kid as far as I can remember. I am interested in seeing the movie though.
I've almost bought Tron toys a couple of times, but a nagging voice in the back of my head keeps telling me I can pick them up for $2 a figure the week after Christmas.
i picked up the sam figure, which is alright, and the 2 light cycles which are pretty neat, luckily they were on sale at TRU
Some people say the quality on these things are ad and I'd only agree with them in a couple of aspects.
The first one would be the sculpt. It's a little soft on the larger ones, but it gets a bit better with the smaller ones.
The second one would be the plastic they used. Its pretty good but it gets a little deformed in packaging. My real complaint about this is when I purchased the 3 3/4 Clu. I thought he had a cool design, and I still think his sculpt and paint job is probably the best out of the four figures I purchased. But when I turned his head slightly, it tore right off of the peg. So now I have a Clu that can't turn his head...
I will say that the light cycle is pretty damn cool. It lights up pretty well and the sound effects are nice. I just wish the figures and the cycles lights could stay on until you want to turn them off.
You know, I saw these first a few weeks ago at Kmart and I would have bought the entire 3 3/4-inch line on sight had it not been for the price point. I like Tron. I still have all my vintage Tron stuff from the first movie from when I was a kid. And I like the new stuff. But I'm just wrestling with a $9.99 price tag for a 3 3/4-inch figure, even if they do light up, especially when we're talking about picking up an entire wave. And when you compare the accessories to other toy lines (like G.I. Joe) at their lower price point it just doesn't seem like you get that much for 10 bucks a pop with the Tron stuff. And I'm hearing there may be some construction quality issues too so I'd be even more disappointed if I spent that and the figures started breaking at the joints. If they were $6.99 each I think I'd buy 'em in a heartbeat. I'm also a little confused with the price on the white light cycle (just for the sake of conversation)...it's $14.99 at Kmart and Walmart, but it's $17.99 at Target. I wonder what would cause the $3 difference there. But if all this stuff hangs around long enough to go on clearance, I think I'll definitely be setting up a new Tron shelf at some point.
I think I'm going to pass.
There is just something about movie figures that is never as cool as the figures that aren't attached to a movie. It's like they are selling them based on the movie being popular and not on the toy being good all on it's own.
Between GI Joe getting away from movie toys, Transformers being away from movie toys, and Marvel Universe it seems like I've already got plenty of lines to keep me busy as a collector without having to add a movie line to the stuff I'm looking for.
Pysched for the movie, but no real interest in the toys. I've almost bought a few of the die-cast mini vehicles on impulse, but usually found other things I wanted more.
My daughter likes playing with the larger figures and I have to agree the gimmick looks cool, but the nostalgia factor just isn't there for me. Give me some figures of the original cast (young Jeff Bridges, plz) and I might be more willing to pull the trigger.
My own personal take is that I am skipping the main line stuff. However, I am already saving up to get any Hot Toys Tron and/or Tron: Legacy figures. I just don't have the will to collect an entire new line of figures. but the smaller number of figures likely to come from Hot Toys is easier to swallow.
Also the Tron keyboard and mouse will be mine, whenever they come out.
I'd only get the 3 3/4 figures. I want the Clu figure really bad. Most of the villainous characters look really cool too. I'm just sad at how terrible the Kevin Flynn figure looks.
Seriously!? I better get my ass to K-mart then. I wanted Kevin's Light cycle but I thought 17.99 was a little much if all it did was light up.
I want that Deluxe Black Guard, decent posability and no holographic face.
OK I did not want to get involved....
But now my sleves are rolled up...
It's a big fat gritty in your face NO. I wish I could like these figurs but they are not grabbing me. I love the original and until I see the new one I will not even begin to consider purchasing these.
I thought maybe they would tackle the vintage collector crowd but they did not. JUST LIKE WITH A-TEAM. If they were to make some super articulated versions of the original characters with maybe some ncie accessories I would buy, but until that happens, my wallet is staying closed!
i bought the diecast vehicles, they are pretty cool, i tell you what, still holding back on the figures though.
I think the 7" figures look great, the face gimmick is implemented well on them and the 12" Ultimate Sam Flynn. However, while the sculpts on the figures are good, articulation on the 7" figures I read is underwhelming around the legs, and while the 12" figure touts ultimate articulation, I'm not exactly sure how good it is. The box description might be misleading.
The smaller figures look cheap. Not so bad until you see Kevin Flynn. I'll have to see more reviews before I can decide to purchase any.
I'm deffinately interested in the 3 3/4 inch figures. But I have to get at least some form of light cycle.
think i'll end up with a guard posse on my desk pretty soon...
I bout the 3 3/4 Sam and Clu. Not bad but 9.99 is a bit much. Thinking about making an Issac Clarke custom.
Definitely plan on buying, but the cost has been a deterrent so far.
I bought the white motorcycle

I got it for like 10$ cuz it was 15.99 at k-mart,
I had the infamous "coupon" that was good through most of October (birthday club)
it was $5.00 off any toy purchase $5.00 or more...
I got alot of Super Hero Squad figs and a few other things for like $1 lol
it was awesome...
as far as tron goes, its all over priced the bike is def not worth for than 10$ total, and the figures shouldnt be more than 5$ each
the big ones 14.99
I wish they would make more of the bikes in different colors.. I would buy those even though all they do is hold a g.i. joe or mu fig, and light up.. for 10$ is "nice"
These look cool and I've seen them on the shelves a few times, but haven't bought any. I'm not sure that I will either, but after I see the movie, I may change my mind.
I looked at them at the store a few days ago and thought they were pretty neat. I liked that they all light up. Even the 3/4' figures. (Probably why they're $9.99)
And yes, the Kevin Flynn figure looks horrible. It's like someone sat on the mold for the head sculpt.
The animated light up face gimmick on the 7" figures was something that really interested me. I donno if I can really say why. It just seems like a really trippy gimmick to me.
I donno, I wanted to wait till I saw the film before I decide to start grabing up figures, but after hearing how bad the plastic quality apparently is, maybe I'll just pass altogether. Not sure.
