Real Grade RX-78-2 Gundam

Posted on May 13, 2010 at 9:35 pm by Shin Densetsu under Gundam Model Kit News

For the Gunpla 30th Anniversary, Bandai is releasing an all new 1/144 scale model of the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam, but don’t let the small scale of this model fool you! Influenced by innovations in years past on both the Perfect Grade and Master Grade Gundam models, this new RG Gundam model is a modernized hybrid with high attention to detail. It features:

  • New realistic sticker detail
  • Transformable core fighter
  • Internal frame
Internal frames are usually found on 1/100 or larger models. Could this RG RX-78-2 be the 1st in the line of many? Perhaps the Gundam Exia or Wing Gundam may follow?

GA Graphic was able to take photographs of the model on display at Shizuoka Hobby Show 2010. On display were the completed model and runners, as well as the fully articulated internal frame. Click on the title bar to see more!

$26+ I think. Not bad, higher than most 1/144's but considering the amount of runners and internal parts, I think it's justified. Don't think it will rival the SHCMpro with regards to articulation and detail, but I think it will be a worth-while build. Hope the internal frame system makes it to more 1/144's.

1/144th is my favorite scale anymore these days... The Master Grades require so much work and is too big to "play with"(though I'll likely get the FA Gundam). I'm very excited about this, especially at $26.

I like the scale and price point, and the internal frame looks terrific, but I really don't like the RX-78. I think I'll wait and see if they make any other models.

    Blasphemy!

The RX-78 is probably my favorite Gundam all around... I have too many versions of it.

    HURUMPH! Are you serious? HURUMPH!*sarcasm*
The RX-78 is one of the (if not THE) Best Robot/Mobile suits ever designed!
I'll be honest I prefer the grittier RX-78-G (08th MSteam)
But you can't deny the the awesomeness of the Original!
And yes I'll be buying several of these.
