New Images Of Venom From Upcoming Spiderman Line

Posted on November 16, 2009 at 1:30 am by Shin Densetsu under Marvel Toy News

Soulsync has posted new images of the Venom figure from the upcoming 3-3/4″ Spiderman line. Venom and other popular villains from the Spiderman universe have been noticeably absent from the popular Marvel Universe line, and something else is noticeably absent on this figure; full articulation!

This figure has ball joints shoulders, elbows, and hips along with a thigh swivel, but no knee joints! That’s not all, many of the figures in the 1st waves of this line lack full articulation as well. While the preferred route would have been Marvel Universe style figures, what we get instead is something definitely geared more towards kids. Perhaps us collectors will get 3-3/4″ Spideyverse figures geared towards us later on in the line, but for now, click on the title bar to get an idea of what you’re in for.

That is incredibly sweet, but I thought the Spidey line wasn't supposed to be out until next year.

Well these pics are from someone in Singapore. They are not out here and I don't know how he got it.

Damn,... Might be worth overlooking the lack of articulation

Is it me or is there no knee articulation?

I think I see a double jointed knee there. It does look like his exuberant muscles but I'm not sure.

I think though you have to give Hasbro the benefit of the doubt that their action figures for the MU/ 3.34 line will have more then average articulation considering what we have seen so far

we've seen production images already. There are no knees.

edit: Forgot it does have elbows

    For serious?

How could they think about doing that?

There is no good answer to that.

I'd be willing to bet that there is knee articulation in the final release if not in the actual figure in the picture, as well.

Not a bad sculpt, articulation is lacking a shade. I'll give this line more credit once it covers his other renditions, like 2099, Anti-Venom, Web of Shadows Symbiote heroes, Or a black cat or other heroes that first appeared in spidey, like night thrasher, rocket racer, Silver Sable, Nova, DarkHawk, and anyone else I missed. Right now the line is kind of a pass still though for me.

So far, venom might be all I get.

I'll probably get Venom. And once I see that wave 2 Rhino, maybe him too. Rhino however has an action feature.

Well Black Cat is in Spider-Man IV. So chances are good we'll see a figure.

This Venom looks nice but without some of the more modern articulation is worthless. Maybe I can stick that head on my Showdown version.

I'm just happy he's not the tongue-wagging slobbermouth version that unfortunately seems to be very popular these days. I like this head sculpt much better, as he looks more menacing.

    Shame about the articulation, though.

I love the sculpt detail especially the backbone looks really cool, but what kills it for me is there's like no articulation, no elbow, knee and what looks like no upper torso joint looks like its just a statue with exceptions of the shoulder and hip joints...I hope that this isn't true and were just not seeing the joints due to the black color of the figure cause if not its like the MU line took a giant leap backwards in their figure design.

  16. trebleshot's Avatar trebleshot says

I think knee articulation is the only mystery. From the limited view of the pics, it looks like there are joints for the elbows, as well as a bicep swivel. And I'm pretty sure he has ankle joints, which makes me think he's got knees but we can't see it due to the black plastic.

I don't know if we're looking at different pictures, but there is no knee articulation on this thing right now.

Yes the sculpting gives it the illusion of articulation but it has none.

I still think that they are going to give it articulation later on, if this is supposed to be out so far from now. At least I hope. There haven't been a whole lot of great Venom figures in awhile.

The figure shown is the figure that will be released, BBTS even has stock pics up and the figure pictured had no knees either.

Wouldn't surprise me if knees are retooled in eventually but in any case, this isn't for me. I'd much prefer a Marvel Universe style Venom.

To be honest I find it weird that Hasbro is making an under articulated Spidey line along with the Armored Adventures Iron Man figures. The Animated Wolverine line hasn't done that well and it seems that Armored Adventures isn't doing so hot too. Might as well make a MU style Spiderman line to sell alongside MU without taking up spots that other characters should have in MU.

It really just doesn't make sense, especially after the well-articulated X-Men Origins line's success, why wouldn't they try to maintain a steady compliment line to the MU? Perhaps it is because they want to focus on MU and IM2, and so they're leaving S-M4 behind?

I agree with the waste of that animated spiderman line not having much articulation, I liked the style especially of the venom but with the little articulation it kills it for me...now on the iron man show I think its not seeing a popularity surge cause the actual show isn't even on cable its on the other nick channel that most people don't have which is the same issue I think that wolverine series has as well....so I think theirs their big problem it should've been put on cartoon network or something....I really hope this mu venom does get the full articulation treatment cause the sculpt is really nice and the potential is there for a great figure. I may pick up the black costume spiderman mu figure since this ones coming out.

I hit the floor when the ML line came out, at first it was consistent in scale and offered articulation unheard of at the time. A true innovation in the toy biz industry but later they started slacking off and the line began to suffer. I loved the build a figure idea and actually thought of it as a child but when they started making you buy variants of the same toy in the same sires just to complete the larger one it bothered me. I think it was brilliant to give us the option to buy a few more figures we might not get because we wanted the larger one, but to then make us buy a variant... Not cool. all this forced me out of collecting ML. It simply was no longer worth the price to build my collection.

I would really like to see hasbro start paying more attention to scale and articulation. I've been collecting almost all my life and remember when action figures like the original 90's Batman movie figures came out and couldn't move at the knees and elbows. I quickly switched to Toy Biz's X-men line that did so. Now we see the de-evolution of figures going back 20 years..? Venom is like Spiderman, he's supposed to be a flexible villain.

I know it's easy for so many of you to overlook these problems, but you know it bothers you. Now with MU line I find myself interested but all the same problems are present. A little quality control goes a long way!

I know this has turned into a rant but if I've not earned the right to express my opinion than I know I've bought it! I would be happy to offer some free consultation to Hasbro if they wanted to improve there line with little effort. Somehow I don't think they are interested in what I or you have to say in the matter. We only make it possible for them to exists.

True but it seems Hasbro leaves out a lot of articulation on these lines. MU still has more articulation than the individual character/movie lines.
