Discussion Of The Week – Hasbro Marvel VS Capcom Figures?

Posted on November 5, 2009 at 12:11 am by Shin Densetsu under Video Game Toy News

Ah yes, Marvel VS Capcom. A series so well received and in demand that Marvel VS Capcom 2 finally returned to consoles this year as a downloadable game and with some refinements added. The 1st Capcom fighter to debut the fight between Street Fighter and Marvel characters was the popular X-Men VS Street Fighter, followed up by Marvel VS Street Fighter. Then came a bigger roster in Marvel VS Capcom, and everything culminated in it’s popular sequel, well everything except for toys that is…

So the Discussion of the Week this time around revolves around Marvel VS Capcom toys. Hasbro is no stranger to Street Fighter figures, they made Street Fighter G.I. Joe figures more than a decade ago. Hasbro currently has the license to make 3-3/4″ Marvel figures so…..

Let’s say Hasbro decided to make 3-3/4″ Street Fighter figures, only this time, NOT as part of the G.I. Joe line. Possibly similar in styling to the popular Marvel Universe figures. Add in other Capcom characters such as those from Darkstalkers, Mega Man, Strider, and others who made in appearance in Marvel VS Capcom 2 and you have an absolutely HUGE roster and a 3-3/4″ line full of potential. For the most part, the Marvel figures(pre-existing characters) can be a mix of repaints and new tooling, while the bulk of new sculpts would go to Capcom characters.

Maybe Gigantic Battles sets with the fan-favorite Sentinel design from Marvel VS Capcom 2, or Blackheart, the upgraded Mega Man, Jin Saotome’s Blodia, et al, the possibilities are vast! This line could be used to fill in gaps for missing Marvel characters in the Marvel Universe line, while at the same time, FINALLY giving us figures based on this awesome series. Sure Toy Biz made a few years back, but they are dated. So do you think this is an idea that Hasbro should pursue? Is a 3-3/4″ Marvel VS Capcom 2 toyline a great idea? DISCUSS!

It'd be neat. And they could repackage them in 2 packs with MU.

Personally I'd like to see SNK vs Capcom figures too though.

Megaman Zero, Megaman.EXE, Classic Megaman, Terry Bogard, Rock Howard, and others.
I love me some street fighter, but I'd honestly probably only buy Akuma, Vega, Ryu, Sakura, Chun li, Cammy, Blanka, and Guile. Whereas I'd probably buy all the SNK guys in that scale. But I'd also be all over all the darkstalkers too, like talbain, felicia, demitri, morrigan, lilith, Jedah, and donovan. Oh man, a donovan blade two pack would be epic win.

And the megamen in fighters definitely need some figure coverage. Oh what I wouldn't give for a Good Megaman Zero figure, besides his X form. And not to mention the Megaman ZX designs. The best part of megaman figures too? One mold, rainbow colors, all with different weapons. Bandai was a tease with these in the 90s with the Rockman anniversary kits. They are actually perfect scale to MU too. Highly detailed and articulate. Shame they never made any of em past Rockman X5, and a very short lived Rockman Dash series. I'm still miffed they never made a Rockman Zero one. Only his RockMan X version. But the classic and maverick hunter figures were quite the badass figures. I'd love to see what hasbro could do with them. Since toybiz flubbed it with too many action features. I still have my demitri, talbain, and megaman from the toybiz line.
Love the two darkstalkers ones to death. Megaman with how they did it, not so much.
Strider is an amazing idea too. I'd eat an MU figure of him up! But I'd also want to see them toss in more randomness like Viewtiful Joe in MU style for giggles.

So I guess my picks would be any and all Megaman games (Zero series, and ZX series specificly), Darkstalkers, viewtiful Joe, and if they could, the fatal fury guys from mark of the wolf. I know it's SNK but schucks, with all the SNK vs games in the fold too, it's about time they got some joe scale love.

I would definitely be interested in a 3.75" Marvel Vs. Capcom line, but I wouldn't want it just limited to MVC2. There are so many great characters in that series that I'd want as many as possible. And as Snow and Shin mentioned, reusing parts for a lot of the toys would cut cost considerably and allow more of the massive roster to be done in plastic form.

Of course, Hasbro would be able to reuse some of the existing MU molds and accessories. But the Capcom character molds would be reused quite a lot as well, especially when you consider that every Street Fighter character has at least one color variation on their outfit and that a lot of the characters have similar body types. Some are even pretty close to the MU figures (Hulk = Zangief?).

All I know is that I would pay very good money for a Tron Bonne with 3 sevbots pack.

Also Omega Red, Spiral and Silver Samurai.

    And Dan and Zangief.

GOD YEAH! Hell I'm surprised companies often neglect SNK when it comes to figures. High Dream made some CVS figures but stopped. 3-3/4" is a GREAT scale for fighting game figures. SNK has a HUGE roster to pick from, to make it easy, Hasbro could just get the license for SVC Chaos and a license for Neo Geo Battle Coliseum as well as KOF, all 3 characters combined have rosters from Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Buriki One, Metal Slug, Kizuna Encounter, Samurai Showdown, World Heroes, et al. KOF would be a great starter for 3 packs.

Ikari Warriors Team has a lot of crossover appeal, I can see Joe fans using them as mercenaries(which they are).

Gotcha, I just listed MVC2 because it had the biggest roster of the Marvel VS Capcom games.

Also, the modular armor for Iron Man is VERY POPULAR. You kill 2 birds with one stone by releasing that for a MVC line; you can repaint it with new weapons as War Machine, repaint it in slightly different tones for a Marvel Universe version, and have it come with a HUGE super cannon for the MVC line.

And 1 wave of DarkStalkers figures. Though I think they really had at least 2 waves of MvC figs, but I'm not certain of that entirely. I only bought the Megaman vs Warmachine one, and the Strider vs cammy? or spiderman? one. Of XvSF I had only the Akuma vs Wolverine one and a Cammy one (forgot who she came with). The action features in the figures themselves really took away from the fun though. The wolverine figure was okay with his berserker claw attack mimic, but Akuma really got shafted on his shoryuken/hadoken punch. Cammy had v-cut legs and couldn't pose for crap. Megaman had extending limbs and power up armor that made his poseability go down even farther, plus made him just look all sorts of shades of weird without being beefed up. Warmachine was a repackage from the Ironman line, and strider was actually pretty decent. The Darkstalkers figures though were awesome. No action features, just marginally decent poseability in the shoulders(they didn't have the basic rotation cut, they had a peg through them too like the legends figures, and modern 6'' lines do). To this day I still love my demitri and talbain figures. Demitri also came with a lilith figure. Talbain came with BB hood, and victor came with the ghost professor. Morrigan was the only one in the MvC line from Darkstalkers(she came with captain america iirc). The Darkstalkers line came out right at the same time as the american version of the cartoon series(not the anime though viz did release that stateside not long after too).

I'm a huge darkstalkers fan, so I'd love to see these guys make a return. Though I'm not all that fond of victor, and queen bee. I'd kill to have talbain, hsien ko, donovan, demitri, lilith, morrigan, jedah, phobos, Felicia, and the demon samurai. Pretty much the whole cast from the sega saturn vampire saviour game, minus victor and queen bee. (The saturn version had all the characters from the nightwarriors game, and if you imported it, it had an english language setting. =D)

So far I only have Chun-Li & Sakura Microman figures. Then M. Bison & Guile G.I. Joe figures.

Better plan: more Microman Street Fighters. Those Chun-Li and Sakura figures are smegging spectacular. Give the figures bases, extra hands, accessories such as Hadoukens, Guile's comb, Vega's rose, etc. and I'd pretty much be a completist.

The revoltech ones were awesome. But the jazzware megaman figures blow chunks. I have a few of them, and they can't even hold a candle to the bandai ones, or the takara ones. They also made the megaman Zero I want, but after the Axel fiasco I dealt with in owning him, I'm not sure if I want to bother. I'd rather Bandai go back to making the kits of em, or Takara make more, even more of their kits like gutsman and metalman, or definitely let hasbro take a stab at it with their XMO/MU/GI Joe crew. Their Megaman NT Warrior Figures were only marginally better than the Jazzware X/Classic figures. So keep them away from the Megaman line if at all possible.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. The toybiz MvC line was well sculpted, but not articulated. Maybe it'd be better......But they're two distinctly different art styles, so I'd leave it to different companies. Though, there are SF and Marvel MiniMates.......

Mixing up 2 lines made by completely different companies isn't consistent though. I'd rather see the Marvel Universe team create a MVC line so that the line is consistent all around.

If you're refering to megaman, the only other ones I have besides the 10th and 15th anniversary kits from bandai, and the EXE ones from takara, is the old cartoon one which is lacking any form of decency altogether except for Rush. I have the Jazzware Axel, but he's massive in comparison to the kit ones which are conveniently perfect MU like in sculpt and style. Speaking of which, I may as well post a pic for comparison and 'conceptual reasons' for this MvC discussion.

If Hasbro could do them anywhere near as great as takara or bandai has in japan I would be all over them with a quickness.

In the group shot, Megaman and Megaman X are from the Bandai Kit Line, Vision from MU, MetalMan from the takara Kits (very fragile sadly), and Bass.EXE, and Shield form Megaman.EXE are Takara Figures. Megaman and his various spinoffs can skate style wise because of being androids, just as darkstalkers can skate because of being otherworldly, but Street Fighter characters specificly would need to be MU style realistic. SNK art is realistic, similiar to MU. So they'd work beautifully if made.
Megaman and Darkstalkers would need a dash of Anime Flair though, the typical Capcom SF Alpha like flair. Or to circumvent that, Hasbro could use the SNK art of SF characters and Darkstalker characters as used in SNK vs Capcom: Chaos. That Megaman Zero(SVC Chaos Version) specificly, would be epicly beautiful if done in the MU style, and I would probably buy 10 of him alone just because I love that design so much. The Megaman ZX designs I'd also eat up like none other if done in MU scale and style with high articulation for poses. ZX I'd buy an entire line of alone in this scale, ditto to MM Zero. Though Megaman X and Classic I tend to only stick to the core cast, and arch rivals, like X, Zero, Axel, Sigma, Megaman, Protoman, Bass, Rush and Treble.

    Dear Hasbro:
I am a stingy buyer, never buy doubles and rarely buy a different version of the same character.
But, if a line of Marvel VS Capcom 2 figures were to come out in this scale, where every character was released some way, I will buy every. single. one.

Why'd you have to go and remind me of the cyberbots line like that...

    Transformers Crossovers Marvel Vs Capcom...
Cyber Akuma, Cyber Ryu, Massive megaman's from Classic to Zero, even roll. And this is where the creativity can really fly some for humor. Cyberakuma as an old style train, or similiar steam engine thing. Ryu as similiar different head, Classic megaman could be his megaself, and turn into a giant beat the bird. MM Zero could turn into a pokemon-ish cyberelf, Roll into a vacum or something of similiar move related to her. The hulk tank could be retooled to be a blanka tank too.

For the two pack like the marvel ones got. Cyber First form Onslaught (astral plane jet), and Sentinel (MRD Van) that combine into the bestial massive onslaught(nightmare truck). They could even spin off into Crossovers darkstalkers... Cause it's not like giant robot versions are anything new to capcom lol.
