Dr. Doom confirmed for Marvel Universe Secret Wars

Posted on August 14, 2009 at 11:15 pm by trebleshot under Marvel Toy News

Bob Layton, the artist for the Marvel Universe Secret Wars comic 2-packs, has added another image to his original artwork sales page. This time it’s the benevolent dictator of Latveria, Dr. Doom! Based on the image, he’ll be wearing his traditional costume for the set. No word yet on who he will be packed with, or which issue of the comic will be included.

Mr. Layton’s page (which can be viewed here) also contains several other images for characters appearing in the Secret Wars 2-packs, some of which have already been seen at retail or at SDCC.

In related news, Wikipedia‘s Marvel Universe (Toyline) entry also states that The Wrecker will be part of the comic packs, thereby completing the Wrecking Crew. The Wrecking Crew were featured prominently in the Secret Wars storyline. If this is true, then there is only one remaining character out of 24 that has yet to be announced.

According to Wikipedia, anyway. (Check the "Marvel Universe (toyline)" article.)

    I can't wait!

We've pretty much assumed as much when the first three were revealed to be part of the line. Although I am curious when and how Hasbro confirmed that all of the Wreckers would be released.

As for the Dr. Doom, I think more fans would have been surprised if he wasn't included in this series (unless a single pack version is released). And if the packaging art is accurate, it looks like Doom will be in his classic costume instead of the Beyonder duds he wore during Secret Wars.

EDIT: Btw, thanks for the heads-up!

I'm not really surprised either, but I am delighted. It will be awesome to have the whole Wrecking Crew, and Dr. Doom to boot!

Now, that just leaves one question: Who the heck is the last figure going to be of?

Probably Red Skull, or the Beyonder. At least that's what I'd assume.

Red Skull was not in the Secret Wars.

This figure is the LAST figure that was questions in my thread talking about this very subject. There are many possibilities but I would like to think it's a HERO characters, maybe SHE HULK?

Though a Wasp would be cool too.

I really hope it's She Hulk, Prof. X,Nightcrawler, or Kang since we're already getting Colossus in the XMO line but since he played a semi major role in the original mini series, it probably will be him.

For the last figure I'd love to see Kang, Absorbing Man, Titania or Doc Ock for a villain.

If it's a hero then I'd like it to be She-Hulk or Nightcrawler.

Yeah, I forgot about Titania and Absorbing Man. Would love to see them get some love in the figure world since they're getting some love in the new House of M, Masters of Evil, comic.

Great news seeing Dr. Doom confirmed and Wrecker mostly confirmed. Despite the quality issues, SW looks to turn out to be a FTW!

If it's a hero, I'd like She-Hulk in her FF costume to match the others. Wasp I think can wait for an Avengers 3- or 5-pack.

If it's a villain, Absorbing Man would be nice. They could even use Thunderball's weapon (if not a remold).

If it's a villain, I'd like Absorbing Man, Molecule Man, or Kang.

If it's a hero, I'm not too picky, but a Wasp or Captain Marvel would be pretty cool.

Yeah, I always get him mixed up with his animated secret wars appearance.
Since that's the case, I'd assume Kang or the Beyonder. They've already unevened the hero numbers from the cyclops/hulk, and ironman/spiderwoman packs, so I'd honestly assume the remaining is a villian or the beyonder himself since ultron is packed with reed instead of doom. Though I guess that could be for a thing doom two pack as well. I guess it really depends on who's left in the pairs to help guess that figure.

But then there's the nagging question of the missing MU colossus mold...

Well according to Wikipedia, we have one villain/villain pack coming with Wrecker being paired with Bulldozer. According to the article Doom is paired with a Thing in his trunks outfit. That only leaves who is going to be paired with Storm. If these are the real pairings I really don't think it will be either She Hulk or Wasp as I don't know if Hasbro would do a two female pack. I know they're doing a two villain pack according to Wikipedia but let's face it, as little love as the villains are gettting, the female characters get even less from Hasbro. Although...Storm/Titania pack has a nice ring to it.

Those groupings on Wikipedia are just guesswork by the author(s) of the article. They specifically state at the top of that section that they don't know who will be packed with who yet.

Exactly I was simply basing an opinion on what it says. I really don't hold anything to it til some type of official word comes out or better yet actual pics.

Actually, I was always partial to those duds...of course, many in the doom camp feel that wasn't Victor at all, but either Kristoff or a pale imitation. First time I ever saw Dr. Doom was from the Secret Wars line, toywise.

Um, yeah-- I was the guy who edited the wikipedia article on my phone while waiting for my GF to get off work, cause I found the Dr Doom picture on the website and the entire Wrecking Crew was confirmed by Hasbro/Marvel at SDCC.

Not to mention I had posts with the Marvel mini-mates (the new series of figurines coming out later this year, not the X-Men stuff) beofre someone else front paged it.

Sorry I didn't post anything sooner (thanks for posting, OP), but I don't come here often. Maybe if one of my many PMs to the admins got answered and they explanied to me why A) My news posts get ignored, and B) my offer to be a Marvel newsie has not been acknowledged, regardless of answer, maybe I'd feel more inclined to show these things when I find them.

Still, no disrespect OP, just frustrated and disgruntled.

I don't recall reading that about the Wrecking Crew, but there was so much information being reported, I could have missed it. It's certainly great to hear.

    Also, check your PMs.

Yes'm, I was the one who did that actually. The only groupings we're not sure of are wave 4, but we know all figures but 1.

Also, I'm not sure they have CONFIRMED the entire Wrecking Crew would be in it. In fact, I'm pretty sure they didn't.
