NECA Player Select Street Fighter IV Wave 2 Released

Posted on August 12, 2009 at 12:27 am by Shin Densetsu under Video Game Toy News

The Street Fighter IV series of Player Select figures by NECA managed to capture the likeness of the characters, and high articulation while incorporating the attention to detail and sculpt that NECA is known for. Wave 1 sold fairly well and for fans who wanted more characters, your wish has been granted, wave 2 has been released! Wave 2 consists of fan-favorites such as:

  • Akuma
  • Chun Li
  • Guile
These figures were sighted at Toys ‘R’ Us and should be hitting wider distribution very soon! Could more figures of popular characters such as Sagat, Blanka, or Dan be on the way?

When Ryu was released, I heard of a few breakages for the wrist pegs when swapping hands. I myself had a stuck joint on one of the elbows which I later freed.

I noticed that Akuma's hands are significantly easier to swap than Ryu's. Upon closer inspection, I found out it's because instead of a peg being attached to the hand, there is now a hard plastic ball joint embedded into the forearm, upon which you attach the hands! Very cool and more sturdier!

Still hoping for figures of guys like Sagat...come on...he's top tier!

Sweet. Just ordered Akuma from toysrus.com. I always kinda wanted a Ryu as well, but I think 1 fig will satisfy me.

The sculpt on Akuma sold me. I wasn't going to buy him but then I saw him in person. See with me, I limited myself to buying figures of characters that I use a lot in the game and I rarely use Akuma(too cheap in my opinion). Yet the sculpt and articulation sold me, and the build quality is higher than on Ryu. The new wrist ball joints work fine.

Speaking of sculpts, if NECA makes Gouken in this line I'm buying him too. He's another cheap character but I think the sculpt will be amazing. Now WHEN will NECA make Sagat? It puzzles me why we haven't seen him yet, yet we've seen C-Viper in the line and she's eh...not as popular as the accompanying figures in her wave and in wave 2.

I am going to look for these after work tommorrow I went Tues. and they had the peg warmers 4 C.Vipers. I picked up Ryu and Ken from the first wave. I put a preorder at TRU.com but if I find them I am going to cancel it. They go fast off the pegs in my area except for C.Viper.

Akuma looks suitably evil. I wonder if they will re-issue the older figures with the new joints. I'd love to get a Ken without worrying if his wrist is going to break off going from a Hadoken to a Shoryuken.

And I'd think Sagat is a must for this, or any SF line. Hell, he was the original end boss for the series. The boy's got history.

These figures are really nice. I was always tempted to buy Ryu and Ken but never did. But I've been eyeballing Chun-Li and Akuma. Even Guile looks pretty dope. I want to see a Blanka.

Hold up, Akuma doesn't have his symbol on the back of his gi? No dice, then!

I hope the next wave has Sagat and Vega!

I love this line and am becoming a big fan of NECA. So far I have all of these except Ken from the first wave.

We all want Sagat, but I think it might take some time if he's not in the next couple waves. NECA's a smaller company, and it looks as if they're business-savvy enough to not overspend and release too many characters per wave. With this level of sculpt, paint and articulation, I think the waves will wisely stay at a release of three at a time to keep it affordable for NECA.

But yeah, here's hoping for Sagat in the next wave. Hopefully he'll be so massive that the weight of his package will bend the pegs... A nice El Fuerte couldn't hurt either.

Sagat would be nice with the next wave hopefully they make him to scale. I kind of like the idea they come 3 per wave it gives me time to save up cause i do collect other lines.

    Man, I love these figures.

I'm surprised at how much I dig Akuma. It's not often that the final figure turns out better than the prototypes.

    AND he's HIGHLY photogenic:

I'll post more pics later, by which time I hope I'll have settled on some poses for Guile and Chun Li. Definitely more from Ken, Ryu and Akuma, though. []
