New Rainbow Brite Toy Line in the Works

Posted on January 4, 2009 at 7:37 pm by infin8ty under Girls Toy News

Playmates Toys has been granted to master license for Rainbow Brite….that means new toys are coming in 2009! United Media will serve as the exclusive merchandise licensing agent. The toys will “honor the nostalgic look, indomitable spirit and energy that Rainbow Brite embodies with a trendy tween redesign that girls will adore,” according to United Media. The line will include fashion dolls, plush and role-play toys and is scheduled to be released in time for the 2009 holiday season. There will also be an accompanying character content online and in-pack, as well as a “Share A Rainbow” challenge, which is aimed at encouraging young girls to help others, in alignment with the new positioning of Rainbow Brite as a role model who is socially-aware, inspirational and innovative, helping girls develop an inner strength, while focusing on the importance of being confident and caring about the world.

Playmates Toys has gained the licensing rights for Rainbow Brite which means there will be a new toy line for 2009. The line will include fashion dolls, plush and role-play toys. We will keep you up to date with any pictures of the new line that become available.

I was wondering when Rainbow Brite was going to get in the game! Not that I'll get any, but I'm curious as to what they will look like.

It's about time Rainbow returned. It seems aside from Jem, she's the only one missing from the party.

I wonder if they are going to go with a vintage look or if they are going to do something new?

They say the new toys will stay true to the vintage look, but I'm skeptical.

They may do a vintage line along with an updated version also. We'll see how it works out when pictures surface.

i hope they dont go overboard with the modernization of the line like they did with strawberry shortcake. the updated shortcake is hookerish to me.

I hear ya... it's too floofy. There's not even an evil villain in Strawberry Shortcake! I'll be very disappointed if they do that to Rainbow Brite, in our day, she was like a girl superhero!

completely floofy, we went from oh no the witch/villian/whoever is trying to hurt us to "emagod! the ice cream truck broke down! like what are we gonna do guys?"

A friend of mine dressed up as Rainbow Brite for Halloween. I heard they had costumes for Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, etc so I guess those licenses are making a comeback big time.

But do women have the same sort of nostalgia for these toys as guys do?

They do have the costumes, but they're not licensed, so the costume is really called like "rainbow girl" or "strawberry princess".

Yes, we girls definitely have nostalgia for our old toys. Some of my favorite memories are invading my brother's Skeletor Castle with my My Little Ponies... Girls just didn't have the good sense to preserve their toys as much as boys did, so there's not as much vintage stuff around, except for the MLP line really.

yeah and the costumes ive seen are pretty much lingerie, which is usually what girls halloween costumes are, in FL anyway.

and yay! i just realized you were a girl infin8ty! yay theres more of us on here! lol

yeah i totally barely preserved anything. a few of my barbies and MLP's got haircuts ala charlotte

i tried to shave barbies legs once and took a hunk of plastic out of her. she was scarred for life.

my friends got an awesome vintage MLP collection and her daughter just gave one a haircut,

cheers to the newest member of the MLP collection whom we all affectionately refer to as..
    "Sniffles the Emo Pony"

i have a pic of it somewhere i gotta find it its hilarious.

That's cool. It just always seemed to me that if it wasn't Barbie then women weren't interested in toys in adulthood. Nice to know that you ladies are as nostalgic as us guys.

Here's the main problem with girls collecting toys....when we're little, we have the urge to cut hair, and all of our toys had beautiful hair! I made my hairdresser cut my cabbage patch kid's hair when I got mine cut, but then she had a big bald spot on the back of her head (because CPK's did not have full heads of hair/yarn), so she went into the closet never to be seen again.

It just might have been the wrong time to revive the line. Plus I think Rainbow Brite is iconic, so it certainly doesn't hurt to try and get her out there again.
