Tamashii Macross F DX 1/60 VF-25F & VF-25S Released!

Posted on December 23, 2008 at 4:59 pm by Shin Densetsu under Macross Toy News

The highly anticipated Macross Frontier DX 1/60 VF-25 Alto Type and VF-25S Ozma Custom toys by Tamashii(Bandai) are now on sale! These toys should be trickling into you favorite e-tailer stores soon, just in time for the previously announced 12/25-31 release dates! These are the first all new perfect variable/transformation(no parts removal needed for transformation) Macross toys made by Bandai since making their Macross 7 DX 1/65 scale toyline in the mid 90’s.

The Macross Frontier anime series premiered this year, and is the latest installment in the Macross series. Created for the 25th anniversary and featuring a ton of homages to the original series, a movie is planned for next summer. The DX toys are not the only toys planned from Bandai, as their VF100 1/100 scale line is scheduled for February, and a 1/72 scale model kit line started earlier this year. With a movie premiering next summer we can expect a lot more merchandise to come! This is truly a great time to be a Macross fan!

*Update!* Instruction manual scans added!

Bandai's first release for their Macross Frontier DX 1/60 line will be Alto's VF-25F. With design influences ranging from the classic VF-1, to F-14 Tomcat & SU-27 Flanker, this is a popular valkryie with a rather unique battroid mode. Saotome Alto uses this from the beginning of the series, to the very end. This is Bandai's first all new valkyrie toy since their DX 1/65 Macross 7 toy line from the mid 90's.

So far it is a japan only release, I guess stores are open in Japan that day. I wish release was earlier so that I could get one for myself before christmas. Oh well.

Japan doesn't do Christmas quite the same as North America does it, so yeah stores are open through the day.

...but...but...my Christmas is still RUINED. I look at the VF-25 DX toys like Wayne looked at Cassandra:

"She will be mine, oh yes, she will be mine!".

Order the 1/72 kit in the interim?

I really wish the DX toys and 1/100s would come out soon too, I wanna get some reviews to pore over and decide whether or not I can resist them until Michele/Luca.

That is actually the 1/72 kit which was released just a few months back.

The only box shown has been for the DX 1/60 VF-25F Alto type, it has no artwork, just some of the photos that we have on the news post(mainly the profile shots). There haven't been many clear shots of the box yet, the pictures I have seen don't focus on it, and usually have a figure blocking it.

I love how balanced the DX VF-25 looks. I actually don't mind the lower crotch positioning(higher hips) as much as before. If this toy comes fully painted as shown in the photos we are in for a treat, it has been a long while since we have seen an all new mold Macross toy extensively painted.

GA Graphic has posted new images of a near-final production sample. Click here to check them out!

I do hope that the final production toy has a gloss coat. I am impressed by how much is painted on. Almost no need for stickers! Look at that diecast in the necessary areas...

Considering the competitor's prices, the price of the DX valkyries is actually much lower, for something around the same size class. My purchases are primarily character driven(exceptions being when a toy is very cool on it's own even if I hate the character), and I would suggest watching Macross Frontier. It is one of my favorite Macross series, and Alto is my favorite character in the show, which is why I want the DX 25F. I am reluctantly not pre-ordering because I am waiting to see if the super armor that is exclusive to Tamashii's website will be bundled or sold separately later on as mass market releases. Alto's 25F is equipped with super armor during most of the series, which is why I want the armor.

No, scratch that. Need the toy. Need it now. Sadly, having ordered it from BBTS, I probably wont see it until mid-January at the earliest. Waiting is the hardest part.

You're telling me man! The only reason I didn't preorder this bad boy is because I am still trying to figure out if the armor will be available as a mass market release later on! Same reason I held off of ordering Ozma too, I want to see if Bandai will make the heavy armor. Having Ozma with no heavy armor is like seeing Captain America without his shield.
