Transformers: Universe Darkwing

Posted on December 16, 2008 at 5:30 pm by Shin Densetsu under Transformers Toy News

Another rumored Toys ‘R’ Us exclusive, the newest repaint to emerge is Transformers:Universe Darkwing, a repaint of Silverbolt who was released earlier this year. Some of you may remember this character from the G1 Powermaster series, as well as the anime Transformers:Masterforce. Featuring an updated paint scheme and an updated alt mode, this figure proves to be a powerful addition to the decepticon air force.

A repaint of ultra class Silverbolt has emerged as Decepticon Darkwing! It is rumored as another TRU exclusive and confirmation is still pending. Click here to check it out!

Based on the pics, it looks like a great nod to Darkwing. It's also pretty good for owners of the Dreadwind figure from BC '07 to finally be able to get his partner in crime.

Now if only they'd make minicons to represent Hi-Test and Throttle!

Neat homage, I'd prefer all new combining versions with Hi-Test and Throttle though. I have Silverbolt already, so I won't be picking this one up, it is a good repaint though.

I'd love new mold versions of those two, especially since it would represent the Powermasters in Universe.

Of course, I'd even settle for a repaint of the jet twins into Animated Dreadwind and Darkwing, for that matter.

Hasbro chose a good figure to repaint as Darkwing. The Silverbolt mold is excellent, sure it is the simplest of the new Ultra molds, but it is one of the best, definitely better than Powerglide. The alt mode is great, everything locks together well, both modes are very stable and sturdy, there are ratchets all over the place in robot mode, and the deco on both this and Silverbolt is applied well. I think Darkwing fans are in for a treat, this is one of the molds that just works well as both characters.

Ultimately it will depend on which character you like and which colors you like. I suggest Silverbolt because that is who the mold was made for to begin with, and works fantastically as a modernized Silverbolt, he gets a super or transonic interceptor or bomber instead of a supersonic airliner like he had in G1, and his robot mode is fully articulated, he just can't combine with anyone. The mold works better as an homage to Silverbolt than it does to Darkwing, since it was meant to be Silverbolt all along, while Darkwing manages to be a nice repaint of that mold.

New pics have surfaced of Darkwing's robot mode, courtesy of chenkofs from the ACToys forums.
    Images attached below.

I'm liking this deco more and more. I might even pick him up now, even though I was only going to do one of each Ultra mold (hence why I own Stormcloud but not Powerglide).

Darkwing's colors look great on this mold. He was always my favorite between him and Dreadwind, so I can't pass him up.

Yup. me too. I have been trying to stay away from repaints, but this will be one of the few exceptions, he looks great!

It's weird, I saw Dark Ramjet post here, and his avatar, then Dreadwing, then immediately thought, "hey wait a minute, this figure might also work as a G2 Ramjet!"

The figure looks great in the new pics, if I didn't already have Silverbolt(one of my favorite classic figures!), I would probably pick this up.
