In Evil Dead 2, Ash Williams continues his battle with the Deadites, as they mercilessly possess his friends, forcing Ash to slaughter those he cares about. The Necronomicon proves to be the key to halting the evil that was unleashed, but it comes at a terrible price for our hero. One of the possessed in the film was Ed Getley, who promptly attacks, before being taken out by Ash with a trusty axe. In a newly released box set, NECA brings fans their first Deadite Ed action figure, as well as an Ultimate version of Hero Ash (from later in the film). Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth sent us the set, and we have a full photo shoot and review. Check them both out after the jump.

Overall
This new 2-pack comes in a gorgeous flapped window box, which features some iconic artwork from Evil Dead 2 on the front. The back of the box has a nice design, laying the photos out as if they were part of the Necronomicon. Inside, the figures and accessories sit in a plastic tray that allows for the figures to be easily stored when needed. Ash includes a shotgun and three interchangeable head sculpts. Deadite Ed includes a standard portrait and a second portrait that splits open. Also included with the set is an opening Necronomicon, a possessed deer head, and the Kandarian Dagger.
Included with this set is an updated version of NECA’s Hero Ash from 2012. The hips have been adjusted to match their current articulation style, and it seems as if the paint was given a fresh look as well. Ash has a bit o digital printing done for the shading on his face as well as the blood. This keeps the lines nice and sharp on all 3 head sculpts. On the whole, the paint on Ash is excellent, with multiple levels of wash, blood and dirt detailing. The head sculpts swap out easily as well. The articulation is on par with current NECA releases and the joints here are solid with no paint locking issues. The shotgun can be stored in the holster on his back when not in his hand. His chainsaw is made of a softer plastic, and warped a bit while in the packaging. Otherwise, this Ash is right up there with the Ultimate Evil Dead 2 Ash released in 2016.
The best part of the set is the addition of the all-new Deadite Ed figure. Any expansion of the core Evil Dead line up is welcome, and Ed is a perfect choice for the set. Ed has a great overall sculpt, with two excellent head sculpts included. The main portrait includes an articulated jaw, which is a rarity at this figure scale. The alternate portrait is split, and the top can be removed to show the green mess inside, and also has an articulated jaw. Articulation is good here, with an excellent range of motion in hands and elbows, allowing you to get the creepy Deadite poses fro mthe film. Like Ash, the paint work here is great, with Ed having a mostly clean look, but lots of washes over the skin areas to keep them looking appropriately creepy.
The set is rounded out with a few additional accessories. The new Necronomicon that can be opened, showcasing some of the pages inside. Also included are the Kandarian bone dagger and a possessed deer head. the deer head is light enough that you can use some scotch tape to mount it to most surfaces (as I did here).
This Evil Dead 2 set is a must buy for fans of the film series. It’s got great versions of Ash and Deadite Ed as well as some great accessories. Check out some select photos below and the full gallery after that.
