Bandai Tamashii Nations is ever expanding the S.H. Figuarts reach, and that continues today with an expansion of their DC Comics line up. First it was Injustice, then Suicide Squad and now they’re going back to tackle Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight Batman is respected as a movie and the suit is one of most revered to date – functional, streamlined and damn cool looking. S.H. Figuarts is taking a crack at it now after many have been on market from other companies; but that gives them the ability to really focus in and get it right. And, based on our early in-hand time with it, they have. The figure is one of the best Batman offerings to date, in any form. It has a full range of articulation, detailed sculpt head to toe, complex paint and weathering even on a mostly black palette. Extra hands, head, and two weapons round the release out.
We’ve handled it and shot over 95 HD images of the final production version, case fresh! It’s due out in Japan in June, soon after via Bluefin Brands in the United States, so don’t pay those import prices! Read on to check some additional thoughts and all the images!
You can check a live unboxing at 3 PM over on the Bluefin Facebook page! After that, make sure to visit @sgtbananas and @toyark on Instagram for some more pics!
Pros:
Solid construction all around
Sculpt is sharp
Articulation is plentiful
Two tone black/grey on the suit adds needed depth
Mask sculpt is perfect, face sculpt is good, closed lips better
Hands pop on/off easily
Cons:
Shoulder pads pop off easy during posing
Almost too tight in some spots, but that’s nitpicking
Cape is difficult to rest flat, always wants to float outward
Head has very wide range of movement, leads to open space in back if not paid attention to
Open mouth face sculpt doesn’t do it for me (but other one is perfect)
Overall:
Really great Batman figure. One of the best I’ve handled in the last 4 years or so. Every point I care about as an adult collector is addressed. Articulation, build quality, paint, sculpt, range of movement, accessories, holding a pose. The few cons above don’t really detract much, I just wanted to be clear. This guy is immediately going into shelf rotation. I truly hope they carry this theme of doing older versions beyond TDK, having a Keaton, 66, Affleck version at this level of quality would be a dream.
