Of all the recent Madballs releases, the 4″ scale foam Madballs by Kidrobot were my most anticipated. This assortment of classically styled Madballs are similar sculpts to our previously reviewed Blind Box Madballs Mini-Figures and the Madballs Keychains. Standing about 4″ tall each, these are made of a very dense foam and feature highly detailed sculpts at a collector friendly price. Included in the assortment are:
- Screamin’ Meemie
- Skull Face
- Slobulous
- Horn Head
- Oculus Orbus
- Dust Brain
Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth provided us with the first assortment and we have over 35 photos of the new 4″ foam assortment. Check out the photos and my review of the new Madballs after the jump.

Overall
Now this is what I’ve been waiting for. As much as I enjoyed the Madballs mini-figures, the 4″ foam versions were the ones I had my eye on from the beginning. Each Madball comes in a nylon net package with a cardboard hanging tag. The very minimalistic packaging approach is all about showcasing the individual Madballs. Though, once opened there’s no point in keeping the packaging at all.
The Madballs themselves are essentially perfect. At 4″ they’re larger than the original 80’s versions. These are a little larger than a softball, while the classic ones were tennis ball sized. As with the smaller ones released by Kidrobot, the design and sculpts are top notch. Details are sharply sculpted and the faces are as creepy, funny and grotesque as can be. There’s a bit of mold flashing on a few of them, but that’s expected on this type of all foam release. After reviewing the smaller releases, I expected these to have stellar paint jobs, and I wasn’t disappointed. the paint lines are mostly clean, with just a bit of bleed on a few of them, with Oculus Orbus being the most noticeable. The colors, though, are bright and enhance the sculpts nicely. There’s a very dark paint wash over each one, filling in each crack and crevice, punching up the gritty look of the Madballs. Overall they looks awesome in hand and are by far my favorite of the Kidrobot releases.
Fans will be happy to know that getting these 4″ versions won’t break the bank. they are priced at $9.99 each, which is the same price for the smaller cartoon style Madballs by Just Play. So for the same price you get a larger, more detailed and classically styled version of each character. Check out some highlight photos below with the full gallery after that.
