Overall
The Ghotbusters figures all come packaged in DST’s massive bookshelf display boxes. The spine features character specific images, so you can line them all up together on a shelf display. You do need to cut the figures from the packaging to remove them. Each figure is held onto the plastic trays with a few twist ties. Behind the main tray sit the rooftop dio pieces. A catalog of additional Ghostbusters items is also included with the figures. The packaging is exactly what fans have come to expect from the Select style figures from DST. They’re big, showcase the figures well, and display nicely on a shelf.
With the third wave of figures, we get 2 major characters in Janine and Slimer. Both figures were highly anticipated by fans when they were announced. It’s good to be getting a few secondary characters, like Janine, that many of the new companies are likely to skip. Janine looks decent in hand. The head sculpt is decent, though the glasses seem to hide some of the detail in the eyes. She includes a set of interchangeable hands, and a few desk accessories. I borrowed the Gotham Edward Nygma desk from Tony Bacala, and it works perfectly with the figure. The Chinese food containers were an especially fun touch. Janine’s articulation is limited by the clothing and molding, mainly in the legs. The harder vinyl skirt prevents forward movement at the hips. The legs themselves would have great articulation otherwise.
With Slimer, there’s some stuff I really liked. It includes a highly articulated figure stand. You can use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen and tighten the joints. The base feels a little on the light side, so it may take a minute to get a good balance, but it’s worth it to have Slimer floating. The stand connect to a peg hole in Slimer’s back. Slimer’s arms feel too large and out of proportion with the body. The figure itself is sculpted well. I really enjoyed the three head sculpts included. You get a standard Ghostbusters 1 head sculpt, a Ghostbusters 1 head sculpt featuring a mouthful of Hot Dogs and a standard (what looks to be) Ghostbusters 2 head sculpt. The two standard head sculpts look similar in nature, but the shapes are indicators that they represent his look in the two movies. the heads swap out easily.
The Quittin’ Time Ray feels a little too similar to the previously released Ray Stantz. The only real difference is the opened jumpsuit. Accessories for Ray, and there are a ton of them, are the same as the previous release. The accessories, including many swappable hands, goggles, and a walkie talkie, all work well with the figure. The proton stream that was included snapped at the connector peg almost immediately. That has happened to three of the streams I’ve used so far. Ray was one of my two favorites in the first two series, along with Winston. His head sculpt is one of the best ones in their line up. With so many accessories included, as well as the dio piece, Quittin’ Time Ray still offers good value for the price.
The real value, and most exciting aspect of this wave are the included rooftop diorama pieces. We’re getting closer to having this gorgeous diorama completed, and it’s looking better with each new release. The new parts snapped into place nicely. With just six more figures to go, I can’t wait to put the entire rooftop together. You can check out a few highlight photos below and the full gallery after that.
