This year, fans of the Aliens franchise were treated to the first ever Alien Day on April 26th. It was a celebration of all things Aliens with new toy reveals, exclusive products, contests and movie screenings. NECA released a special figure in celebration of Alien Day, and made sure fans could actually purchase the figure. The Aliens Lieutenant Ellen Ripley Figure was available online (still available via ToysRUs.com and Forbidden Planet) and even in some Toys “R” Us stores. The figure is based on the Kenner 1990’s Aliens Lieutenant Ripley Figure. It includes a newly sculpted Smartgun and even a reprint of the comic.
Today I have a full gallery and review, with over 85 high resolution photos of Lt. Ripley. the photos show not only a detailed look at Ripley, but comparisons with the previously released Aliens Ripley and action shots with numerous other Aliens figures. Read on to check it out.

Overall
The Ripley figure comes packaged in NECA’s standard blister card packaging. The cardbacf and insert feature homages to the old Kenner packaging art and design. Ripley sits in a plastic tray, held on by a few twist ties. You do have to cut the plastic to remove the figure, so grab a second one if you’re looking to keep it displayed on the card. The presentation is fantastic here, with a bright and colorful design for the cardback and Ripley character art.
Ripley is a repaint of the previously released Ellen Ripley 7″ figure. This Kenner inspired version includes a maroon/purple top, yellow stompers, a newly sculpted scarf and double ammo straps. Instead of a massive rocket launch, NECA opted to include an all new Colonial Marines Smartgun. It features all the same 25 points of articulation as the previous release.
Right out of the packaging, I had no trouble or issues with any of the joints. There were no paint lock issues and paint quality overall was near flawless. The joints were all nice and tight and Ripley had no trouble holding any poses or holding the smartgun. For the most part, the balance and weight of the smartgun will be handled by the right hand, which grabs onto the rear trigger handle of the smartgun. The left hand is mainly used to balance the smart gun as it doesn’t close around the handle. The smartgun itself is excellent and you can tell it could be used for upcoming Colonial Marines figures such as Vasquez and Frost. You can see a space on the interior where it will connect to the articulated arm and backpack. Ripley is a great looking homage to the classic figure. The colors are appropriately bright, but they’ve toned it down enough to fit in with their previous Aliens releases. She definitely works best, though, with some of NECA’s more colorful releases, like the Aliens: Genocide Xenomorph and even the Power Loader.
NECA knocked it out of the park with this release. Ripley is a sign of great things to come with Kenner Aliens homages, and helped to kick Alien Day off properly. The figure is available to just about anyone who wants them. Better yet, it’s a figure worth tracking down. Check out soem of my highlight photos below, with over 85 images i nthe full gallery after that.
