At San Diego Comic-Con 2015, Entertainment Earth had an exclusive set of Flash Gordon 3.75″ Scale Figures. The set included both Flash Gordon and Ming The Merciless. The figures are based on the cult favorite film from 1980 starring Sam Jones as Flash Gordon and the legendary Max von Sydow as Emperor Ming. The set is limited to 1500 pieces and sold for $29.99.

SDCC 2015 Exclusive Flash Gordon and Ming Hawk City Scene 3.75″ Set
- Great included diorama piece
- The extra articulation is welcome
- Good sculpts for retro figures
- Nice packaging
- Can’t hold swords
- No waist articulation
Bif Bang Pow! and ZICA have crafted some really nice retro style figures here. I am personally psyched for the retro 3.75″ Flash Gordon figures. The film is a personal favorite of mine. This is the set to get if you’re really only interested in the main two characters. The sculpts turned out well, especially on Ming. The added articulation in the elbows and knees is a nice way to separate themselves from other retro figures. The set includes a decent sized cardboard diorama of Hawk City from the movie, which makes for a nice contained display piece. Being able to open and then put these guys back in the packaging is a major plus for collectors.
The set has a few oddities though. The hand openings are too large to properly hold the included swords. It took some serious time to get these two to hold them for the pics. Also, the added articulation is great, but the lack of a waist swivel lessens the usefulness of the new articulation a bit.
In the end, I’m mostly happy with the set. I’m glad to have nice looking figures at this size who go great with the ReAction and other retro 3.75″ lines. Not being able to hold the swords is a bit disappointing. However, the included diorama is going to be great as fans grab other other figures like Vultan.
