Gotham (the TV show) made it’s first appearance in collectible form at SDCC 2015 via two offerings from Diamond Select Toys. DST released 2 items, a Minimates set and a Select offering. The Minimates set featured Jim Gordon and child Bruce Wayne, representing their first meeting in the show the night Bruce’s parents were killed. The Gotham Select figure was a SDCC exclusive version of the Penguin, showing off what is to come in the 7 inch line later this year. We’ve done up a session with them both so check out over 30 shots and our thoughts after the break!
Overall: Both pieces are well done within their scope. The Penguin’s face sculpt seems to have been tweaked from the initial promo shots, he’s much more in tune with actor Robin Taylor now. And although the base is simple, it’s also really well done, those things are swappable and gold IMO. The Minimates set is pretty standard fare, the bloody hands and screaming face for little Bruce are a nice touch. With both of these lines, now and down the road, the key will be the villains. If we can get some faithful representations of the villains in their Gothamesque look, the ones that aren’t as real-world looking, but still show faithful, those will be the key. That’s the problem with Gotham – it’s great as a show, but in toy form it’s pretty much just random humans in clothes unless you know what you’re looking at. Hopefully DST can ride that line and give us some kick ass figs that can swap into DCU shelves.
Check some key shots below, full set after that!
