The NECA Scalers are a series of licensed characters that can bed attached to any type of round power cord. The packaging evokes the look of an iPhone, so they’re not exactly being subtle with the market they’re trying to hit. When NECA first announced Scalers, I wasn’t too sure what to make of them. After getting them in hand, and messing with them, I’m a bit more on board with what they are doing. The series includes the following:
- Predator – Classic Predator
- Alien – Xenomorph
- Friday the 13th – Jason Voorhees
- Nightmare on Elm Street – Freddy Krueger
- Gremlins – Gizmo
- The Hobbit – Golum
Rad on to check out over 75 photos as well as some quick thoughts on the series. The figures were provided by site sponsor Entertainment Earth.
I will say, right off the bat, that the sculpts on these are very solid. The amount of detail on each figure is impressive. They paint apps are super clean and each figure is a unique sculpt. There’s not mold sharing at all, so they went all out on each character. I’d say the Alien and Predator are the clear standouts in Series 1. With the entire series consisting of mainly villains, Gizmo seemed an odd choice. But the sculpt and having him be the lone figure facing the opposite direction, help him stand out in a good way. The one problem this line is going to face is the ability to display them. Unless you have visible power cords, wires or a dedicated display of some kind, then there’s not much you can do with them. As of right now they fall into a weird niche of loving horror characters and having exposed or visible hanging wires that these can sit on. Right now I have them on NECA’s 1/4 Scale Batman, who is holding them up via his cape baton accessories (see the pics). If you have an idea of how to display these, then they’re definitely a cool little product.
