Marvel Legends is back in it’s new movie specific form with Captain America Winter Soldier. The Infinite Wave 1 features comic versions of characters not necessarily in the movie. Marvel Now Captain America is one of those, giving folks a Cap based on his new look in the recent Marvel relaunch. The figures have been out a little bit and hardcore Legends collectors no doubt have their hands on them already, but for the rest of us these are just starting to trickle out to mass retail (along with ML Infinite Spiderman figures). We probably won’t shoot the whole line front to back, but, this Cap was a too clean to pass up. Check out our thoughts and over 30 shots after the break!
I personally like modern upgrades to classic characters, so long as the new specs keep the essence of the original character. Marvel Now Captain America does just that. I haven’t dug into the new books, but that doesn’t matter – visually it’s still Cap. Now, I don’t collect Marvel Legends front to back, so I can’t speak on the specifics of mold and part choices or the articulation tech as compared with other figures. All I know is that it is a solid figure with more than enough movement for me. Double jointed neck, elbows and knees, rocker ankles, swivel wrists. No waist swivel (update – forum member simplygriff alerted us to the fact there is a waist swivel, above the belt. It’s just SUPER tight at first), but you do get a torso fold which is pretty seamless. He comes with his shield, no gun. *The gun seen in photos is from a Robocop 2014 6 inch figure, keeping with the modern upgrade theme.
The paint is well done, with little overspray or mess ups. This camera really highlights the very minute errors in paint, so any you see are practically unnoticeable in person. Plastic quality – good for today’s standards. Over the years plastic density/weight and stiffness has decreased across all lines. Compared with other mass retail 6 inch, this is above average in that department.
I’ll let the folks really into Marvel Legends drill down the specifics further than this. I just wanted to shoot this sharp ass Cap figure so enjoy the pics below!
