You guys didn’t think we were gonna leave you hanging with just a high res gallery of Bebop did you? Where there is one, the other isn’t far behind! Rocksteady has officially been modernized for us big kids with his Classic Collection release. Also a TRU exclusive, he and Bebop are dropping now just in time for holiday shopping. They are packed along with the 4 Turtles, so if you actually get lucky and see them on the shelves, you can catch up and grab them all. We’ve done up a high res photo shoot of Rocksteady, check out our thoughts and over 35 pics of the big guy after the break!
Rocksteady stands around 6.5 inches tall to match the height of the Turtles and Bebop. His styling is all there, giving him a modern tweak to the original 80s toon look. Ammo strap, grenades, shell armor plates, removable helmet and camo pants. He has 2 weapons, a sword and a machine gun. Rocksteady also comes with a manhole cover stand with his name on it like the Turtles. Figure weight is nice, plastic is quality. Paint is well done but his helmet has goggles molded into it, and paint applications were left off for whatever reason, differing from the prototype shown at Toy Fair.
His articulation is similar to Bebop, a bit better due to increased head movement- but not much. Arms are great with double jointed elbows and full rotation on the shoulder, waist has a swivel. Neck and head – because of their larger animal heads, Bebop and Rocksteady both suffer a bit there – reduced to slight up and down, and then left/right movement. Knees are double jointed but the hips are restrained on a tight ball joint so posing non standing positions will be a bit difficult. He also has no ankle joints at all, just a swivel at the boot. This is all a bit nitpicky, they are still solid figures and you can pose them up with the Turtles for some great shelf displays.
To wrap up, same thing as our Bebop review – Playmates delivered again with the Classic Collection releases, and if you grabbed the Turtles, these guys are a perfect compliment. Really the only thing wrong with the Classics so far – they can’t put them out fast enough!
