TMNT Classic Collection Bebop and Rocksteady have hit retail after a long wait since their debut in February at Toy Fair. This time around the 8 inch Classic Collection figures are a TRU exclusive, and they’ve magically begun to hit right before Black Friday 2013. Bebop and Rocksteady are the 5th and 6th figures in the line after the 4 Turtles. They sport their 80s look and feel in a modern highly articulated figure design. While kids could grab and enjoy these figures as actual toys, we all know they are designed for us big kids looking to take a trip down memory lane. And boy do they deliver. Check out our thoughts and over 35 high resolution shots of Bebop after the break! Make sure to check our Rocksteady photo shoot too!
Bebop stands around 6.5 inches tall, perfectly in line with the 4 Classics Turtles from last year. He has a similar proportion to the original figure, with a heavy upper body and an over-sized head. All of the design cues are there – red vest, mohawk, cool 80s sunglasses, turtle shell armor, chain belt and the list goes on. Bebop has one weapon, his signature Shell-Drill gun, and it’s the only detachable or removable part. Everything else is molded on. The plastic quality is nice, figure has a quality heft to it. Paint applications are well done, but there was some splatter on my particular piece on the face. Articulation is overall good, the double jointed elbows work really well. However, he is a bit bow-legged due to restricted hip joints, and does not come with ankle articulation at all. This limits his posability a bit compared to the turltes but I wouldn’t say it’s a deal breaker. There is limited movement in all directions for the head as well – he has a big noggin. Posing there mostly consists of left/right and he always seems to be looking up. Again, not a deal breaker as they are keeping in line with the original figure’s traits.
Bottom line, Playmates delivered again with the Classic Collection releases, and if you grabbed the Turtles, these guys are a perfect compliment. Really the only thing wrong with the Classics so far – they can’t put them out fast enough!
