I purchased my Marvel Universe Sentinel at TRU last week for $54.00 + tax. Was it worth the wait and cash? In the short yes, but this release is far from perfect and I expected more for this price point.
The word that keeps resonating in my mind is “Master Works”. I’m having a hard time giving it that “Master Piece” label we hold for figures of this type.
Lets start out with the good stuff that makes it just squeeze by the price point with out to much nerd anger.
The articulation is just good enough that you can get the figure into some good battle poses. The paint and over all deco are cool by why the cartoon colors were not the regular release is beyond my Marketing Mind. I’m not even sure where the blue/purple version comes from? I assume it’s in an issue of the comics that I have not read yet?
It’s huge, built like a brick shit house and has tight joints. Also doubles as murder weapon.
The voice box is beyond cool and has many of the phrases you would expect “Halt Mutant” and “X-Men must be detained” among many others and he has light up eyes.
There are a few things that are a Major let down that should be included if your going to call something “Master Works Level”
No Hand Blaster: no lights, no paint, no sculpt detail. I know he was not always shown walking around with a glowing palm but some attention would have been way better then none. There also should have also been the Hand/Arm arrestors that the Sentinels use to grab mutants.
No Hand-Finger Articulation: LAME at least one of the hands should have had a KUNG-FU GRIP at the minimum. It would been nice to have gotten full finger-hand movement.
The Bottom of the Feet: Again very very little sculpting detail, no paint apps or decals at all for what I consider a major part of the robot.
No sticker sheet: Would have been nice to include some battle damage stickers.
My overall rating for this figure is 5 out of 10. The main sculpt is awesome and the figure is huge and looks cool as a display. But if your going to label something Master Works and charge $54.00 + tax you had better throw in the bells and whistles. I would get one for display but pass on army building until they get Master Mold to produce a better version.
